Bottle:   Deep amber, large frothy creamy head, nice lacing.   Resiny nose, slight candied citrus peel, a little tea leaf.   I can get a whif of alcohol as well.   Similar on the tongue, but seems a little oxidized or light struck.   Hides the 11% ABV really well.   Lingering pithiness, hoppy, slight candied citrus peel.   Not as heavy as I thought it would be.   Decent, but not too vibrant, but at least smoother than I expected.   Thanks for the bottle Bob!

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2012 Started with some nice fruit scents but fades quickly, taste is a lot of pine up front and finishes a little rough. Bottle shared by Ryan. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

June 29, 2012 bottle via trade with Jeff. Brownish orange pour with minimal head. Aroma was piney hops, caramel and alcohol. Taste starts out caramel and then hits you with the piney hops. Medium bodied, little carbonation and aftertaste was not good.

Thanks to Bob for the 750mL bottle! Poured fiery reddish-orange with a creamy, well-retained beige head.. some lacing followed it down. The aroma picked up resiny orange, grapefruit, and peppery hops plus a little too much warm boozage over caramel and fruity notes.. came together well, and seemed somewhere between IIPA and barley wine. The flavor found warm fruits, caramel, and biscuity maltage at the core, with grapefruit, spicy pine, and earthy bitterness around.. alcohol amplified everything, and really warmed the throat and belly in the end.. like the nose, it was hot, but still good. Heavier-bodied with low-moderate, rolling carbonation on the palate.. big and spicy.. this was good, and could be interesting with more age on it.

Thanks to Pawola22 for sending me this bottle. The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of pine and orange notes, with a little bit of resin and some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar, being dominated by pine and resin notes from the hops. There is also some biscuit and toffee, as well as a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

My first Steel Toe beer, and it drank pretty good. Clearly a double ipa, with sweet malt and lots of hops, and a somewhat thick palate. Citrus hop character, and sweet malt. It might be hard to drink a 750ml of this, but it is a good beer.

timfoolery (1126) - California, USA - APR 14, 2012
Bottle from trade with Atom as an extra. Aroma was the best part of this beer with nice tropical notes and some citrus. Flavor starts with these, but they die off and bitter rather quickly. Nice bit of carbonation, but the palate ends up being mild bitterness on the tongue. Pretty good drinking DIPA. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice looking beer. A little darker reddish color that I wasn’t expecting. Alcohol sticks to the glass. Taste is really hop heavy and I can detect that melon flavor others have talked about. I can also taste the alcohol. Nice beer, good aroma, a little floral and sticky.
