Big thanks to dougofthefuture for sending a bottle of this out my way. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours a moderate orange-caramel color with a good white head and some ringy lacing on the way down. The nose carries plenty of tropical-fruit notes on top of some semi-sweet malt. The flavor has those same tropical notes, but the malt sweetness comes through a bit more and overwhelms some of the hop notes. In a beer this big I don’t mind some malt, but there was a bit too much, and the sweetness to bitterness ratio was a bit too much in favor of the former.

Pours light amber with a tin white head. Aroma is orange zest, citrus hops, pine. Flavor is piney hops, lots of orange peel and grapefruit. Light bodied and medium carbonation.

The hops intensity is not what expected for a double ipa. Tastes creamy. The stron hop smell is misleading with the taste. Appearance is good

Bottle from mattyb83, mtjoseph and atom. Pours a deep amber with very little head. The aroma is malty with some tropical fruit notes. Taste has some tropical fruit, not mango, and a fair amount of malt. Warming up to room temp it actually got really good. The sweetness is a little much and the booze comes through but a nice offering. Overall, I don’t know that I would go out of my way for this but it was nice though I wish the ABV was toned down a bit.

750ml bottle from Atom via free beer week as well as mtjoseph via mattyb83 in a trade, thanks Adam, Mark, and Matt! Pours a clear, deep, bright and rich, ruby-orange colored body with a finger-width, dense, creamy and frothy, beige-tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a lot of lacing throughout. Gorgeous looking beer. Aroma is a bit sweet from a bigger caramel backing, but has a nice, fruity hop mixture. Piney grapefruits and citruses, sweet and sticky oranges, resins, earthy spice, florals, tropical fruits and mangos. Aside from the bigger caramel, there is some toffee-bread and a light crystal sweetness. Flavor is big, sweet candied oranges up front with lots of caramel. Pine resins, grapefruits, tropical fruits, and florals come in again making up a nice fruity hop mixture as well as some slightly bready toffees and crystal malts. Melon-fruits coming out towards the end as well as plenty of candied oranges and caramel as this finishes dry and moderately bitter with more of a lightly spiced, resiny, earthy and piney hopping. Lengthy aftertaste with a light alcohol warmth following a medium-full body and a soft, slightly creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a tad sweet with tons of candied oranges and caramel, but I’m really digging it. The hop mixture is sweet as well, but has a firm enough bitterness and solid fruit complexity that keeps this from being overly sweet. Malts are big and sweet as well, but the balance is solid and this is never cloying. It finishes well and the body is soft and easy drinking. I liked this one and look forward to trying their other stuff.

Bottle to snifter. Dark caramel notes. Also has plenty of pine and citrus. Also has some resiny notes to it. Notes of grapefruit and lemon zest. Dark red color with large white head. Very bitter long finish. Pretty boozy, but manageable. It was pretty good, but I would like a little bit less booziness.

Interesting reddish color for an IPA, it was a little too hoppy for my tastes and the finish was slightly off putting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2012 Bottle pour thanks to Aaron! Dark orange pour with off white head, aroma has notes of big caramel, toffee notes, hints of pine, grapefruit, candied lemon and biscuit. Taste is a nice note of biscuit and lemon, but pretty flat with notes of slight grapefruit and candied orange, finishing fairly bitter. Interesting, slight alcohol heat in the end.

Bottle @ home. Clear dark red orange appearance with a light brown head. Somewhat resiny, sappy, piney, floral hoppy, a bit bready aroma. A bit grapefruity, soapy/floral hoppy, citrusy hoppy flavor with a warming, a bit boozy finish. Not bad.
