3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2015 November 16, 2012 bottle shared by Brandon. Clear light brown with some red in the pour. Alcohol and sweet malt in the aroma and the taste is pretty much the same. After a full night of drinking and this is still tough to drink. This needs some time to sit for sure, eesh this was tough to drink. Four people shared this and nobody could finish it.
Nov 22, 2015 - think this might be a 2014 bottle. Very sweet and boozy, but milder than previous bottle. Bumped up rating to 3.4 from a 3.1.
Pours a muddy, copper-brown, with minimal head. Aroma is full of malt, alcohol, and fruit. Flavor has some vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, and some booze, though this is fairly well-hidden. Not overly sweet, this is very drinkable stuff. tfratzke (97) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - DEC 30, 2015
Tinge of caramel aroma. Appearance is a murky brown. Taste is caramel, butterscotch, sweet bourbon alcohol. Not barrel aged but gives impression it is. Some alcohol burn. Another solid delivery from Steel Toe. CheersMate (1343) - Portland (Sellhood), Oregon, USA - DEC 28, 2015
Bottle from the brewery. Aroma is sugar-covered dark fruit, dark sugar, molasses, and a little bread and sweat malt. Not coming off very boozy at 10.9%, which is nice. Dark brown in appearance with a wispy head. The flavor, to me, is rather insipid. I wish the aforementioned aromas carried forward in the flavor -- which it does not for me. Flavor is dark sugar, caramel malt, and dark fruit, but there’s nothing bold here. There’s a little lingering bite at the end, but I can’t put my finger on it. The texture is rich, and I like it. Overall, for me, it isn’t bad, but again the flavor is rather uninteresting. wchesser (2076) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 16, 2015
Bottle from mattsciguy. ’14 vintage in late ’15. Deep amber copper brown. Nose is caramel, some light smoke, lavender honey. Taste follows nose. Good balance, slightly sweet finish. Great example of the style. JK (6162) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - JAN 31, 2015
I have been looking for this beer for a long time. On tap at the brewery. Dark brown with some red when held up to the light in the dark tap room. Sweet nalt and lots of it. Some fruit, geain, and it is sweet. This is what i think of when I think of scotch ale.

bomber from winter secret summer. what is diff in scotch ale vs. Scottish ale? this definitely has some alcohol/scotch characteristics mostly in the taste. caramel toffee and quick to the alcohol. quality, but the aftertaste lowers this for me. deyholla (11606) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 10, 2015
