Copper orange color. Meaningless to the consumer date code was not looked at by the friend who was nice enough to pick this up for me. mckenzie brewing 345 G 1302 2014 I assume that’s the year at the end, as this smells and tastes way past it’s prime, smelling like a Barleywine and tasting like bitter ass. Wish I knew the store, cause the cascadian dark ale also has 2014 at the end. Yay! Drainpour. I wouldn’t hold it against them (maybe the retailer and distributor) if they just dated their stuff so the average consumer could decipher it, but they didn’t.

Draft - Caramel and candy floss hops. Clear gold with a rich white head. Bitter, caramel and tons of orange with a light booze finish. Proper old school imperial.

Thick foam. Beautiful copper. Umm, yea, so this is hop heaven. Lasting grassy grapefuit rind bitterness long lasting on palate. It’s like several hop varieties are fighting each other in a good way for my approval. Well done. Makes me want to go to Eugene, OR again.

Golden amber with a very earthy and sharp hops and the end. It’s a not overwhelming taste but a great double ipa. Curious about the brewery and it’s association with steelhead.

Bottle, as McKenzie Hopasaurus Rex. Pours clear amber with a medium off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a nice residual and good lacing. Aroma is light, buttery with notes of citrus, caramel and pine. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter, not really that well defined, smooth and easy to drink but undistinctive. Lingering harsh bitterness gives away the IBU, but the ABV is pretty well masked.

floral, grass, citrus, vanilla, banana, orange, hazy, white foam, medium sweetness, very bitter, lightly sour, medium body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish, all in all very drinkable IIpa. balanced enough to cover up alcohol, but not mind blowng as far as complexity. aroma reminiscent of a highland scotch when glass is empty and warmed, must be the malts.

Bottled as McKenzie Brewing Co. Hopasaurus Rex IPA. 100 IBU, 9.5% ABV. Dark orange-brown pour with a good sized off-white head. Nice retention and lace. Heavy caramel and barnyard malt aroma with resiny, earthy hop elements in the background. Smells sweeter than it tastes. Light sweet, medium bitter flavor. Full body, creamy-sticky-oily texture and a long, yet subtle bitter finish. Malty style versus aggressively hopped. Good beer.

Bottle with the McKenzie label. Pours hazy light copper with a foamy off-white head. First impression was resin aroma, next was non-citrus fruit, then citrus. Full bodied. Almost chewy. Very hoppy with a fair amount of brown sugar background. I’m going with earthy/resin/citrus for hop flavor. It’s pretty smooth - the hop burn is mild, but the hop impact on the mouth continually increases. It finishes very, very hoppy. Nice!

mrhoppy (1288) - Santa Clara, California, USA - AUG 3, 2013
An imperial-style India Pale Ale. Extra deep gold color, extra strong, extra bitter, extra aromatic, extra everything. This was a very delicious IPA, rich and smooth with ample amounts of flavor and malt character. The hopping is so aggressive, but it never gets out of hand, it still stays balanced, right into the finish.

Now brewed under their alias name, McKenzie Brewing Company. The beer is now only 9.5%, ONLY. Delicious beer. It will knock your socks off.
