Always nice to see a barleywine on tap, although being on cask isn’t quite the way I enjoy my barleywines. The cask conditioning and hand pump really did a number on the body, the light airiness of the beer ruined the body and made the beer feel flat and thin, which in turn seemed to emphasize the alcohol more. The caramel flavors were left tasting watery and bland, the hops faded away. I’m not sure if all of this was caused by the cask conditioning, and didn’t get to try them side-by-side, but overall this beer was bland and one to pass on. cole45 (21) - USA - JAN 15, 2007
Had this as part of an 8 beer flight. Not a fan of barleywines, but I guess this one is OK as barelywines go. I thought the hops were a little much on this - overpowering the sweetness.
