Named after the University of California at Irvine, plus U can C the yeast, since it is an unfiltered India Pale Ale. Deep gold color. Citrus-floral hop nose with lots of malt flavors, leading to an intense hop finish. 2006 Great American Beer Festival, Silver Medal.

On tap at the brewery in boringville. Chalk board said "low" so this HAS to be a super old batch that should have been dumped. No way it deserves even the less than stellar reviews if everyone on here had this beer. Pours a hazy orange with no head served in a pint glass. Aroma is bread, slight paper to cardboard and some stale malt. Taste is bread, malt, diacetyl and no hop presence at all. I wouldn’t even guess this was an IPA but rather a golden amber or something. This was the last chance for anything at Steelhead. Done.

Clear orange pour with a white head. Butter, orange, and bready malts on the nose. Some cracker malts, light pine, and some grass. Flavor has a touch of citrus to it, but too much diacytel flavor. Some bread, a bit of cracker, and a mild pine bitterness. Light herbal and floral hop notes. Kind of acidic as it warms, too.

Tasted on 1/23/11 on draft at Steelhead Irvine. Pours cloudy golden with a thin white head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is citrus and floral hops with a good amount of bread and hay malts. The flavor starts off with a hint of caramel, moving to the bread and hay, and then finishing with a good dose of the floral and lemon citrus hops. The body is medium and somewhat sticky with average carbonation and a long bitter hops finish.

Tap at the Irvine location. Rating #7. Hazy glowing orange with a nice lacing white head. Resiny and a bit piney. Fruity, tropical fruit as a matter of fact, light citrus and tasty. (1388)

AmEricanbrew (6878) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - JUN 4, 2010
Clear light amber color/ white head. Nice floral, pine sap, sweet pale malt aromas. Decent pale grainy malt, bitter floral hop flavors.

I had this on tap at Irvine (Go Anteaters!!!). I thought it was a very approachable IPA: nice citrus hoppy nose and flavor with some good malt balance.

Tap @ the brewpub. Fairly hazy amber color with a persistent off-white head. Moderate grapefruit and citrus front to the aroma. Some sweaty and pine hops also show up. Mild grapefruit jucie flavor that covers up most of the malt. Dry mild-moderate long bitter finish. The body is light.

hazy orange. creamy beige head, waves of drippy lace, sweet crystal malt aroma with fruity and citrus hops, citrus hop flavor supported by the sweet crystal malt, nice tangerine sweetness, just the right amount of bitterness for balance without taking too much from the hop flavor, lasting bitter finish,

OC tour, tap at Irvine brewpub: Slightly hazy golden hue with frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of piney citric hops, biscuit and cardboardy malt, allspice, and cobweb. The taste is moderate bitter over chalky pale malts, nutty and has a hint of citric twang. The mouth feel is dry and snappy. A drinkable IPA methinks.

Had this a while back and forgot to rate. This one was on tap at the Irvine, CA location. It had apparently just won an award at the GABF. It was an unfiltered looking IPA. Was a murky orange/brown color. Aroma was nice and hoppy. Lots of grapefruit and citrus. Flavor was much of the same. Nice hop bitterness. Mildly malty for balance purposes, but it was pretty much hop favored. It was my favorite of their brews at the Irvine location.
