This is a cheap beer, $10.89 for a case of 16 ounce returnables, including deposit. There is a nice white head with good lacing. This is a bland beer, no hop taste, but a semi decent malt taste. It is not a bad beer for the price.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopdog, thanks Steve!) Pouring a bottle of beer and then watching the result can be one of life’s simple pleasures. This beer pours a bright straw color and is fully clear, so the frenzied movement of the bubbles during the pour was clearly visible. And for several minutes, hundred of bubbles have formed down low on the side of the glass and then rushed to the top to contribute to the tall, creamy, and long-lasting white head. I can just sit here and gaze at this for awhile, eyes unfocused but taking it all in. But I’ve done that for a few minutes, so it’s time to move on. This beer smells sweet and grainy, and just not aromatic or pleasant enough to be a factor in whether I want to taste this beer or not. Flavor is lightly grainy, only mildly sweet, and lacking any hops that I can detect. It doesn’t taste bad, just really weak, and the body is very light and somewhat thin as well, but nicely carbonated. But yet the carbonation bubbles keep coming, the head is still fully covering the beer, and thick, dense lace is now covering much of the glass. In the end, regardless of the beauty it is in the glass, I’m just not caring much for actually drinking this beer. But I’d say this is a positive alternative to BMCs if you’re into that sort of thing.

Stegmaier sixteen ounce returnables have resurfaced in Philadelphia. My local distributor carries them for $12.99 a case. Steg has a ricey aroma, gold color and fair lacing. The flavor was a decent beer with surprising maltiness to it. You could enjoy this in mass quanitities.

I though this was another pale lager at first, certainly looked like it. This is a little bland, and by that, I mean it has only a little more taste than water. Which is about 10x more taste than other beers in its price category (I’m looking at you BMCs, ESPECIALLY Anheuser World Select, you are horrible) A solid cheap sixpack purchase if you just want a knockaround beer and don’t feel like going for one of the big boys

Clear pale yellow/gold. Small quickly dissipating white head. Very carbonated. Floral, grainy nose. Light bodied, wet straw, faintly bitter boring finish.

Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 14, 2004
Light straw with an almost non-existent head. Flowery malty aroma, solid mouth feel, ends boring, but not offensive. A really good pilsener.

Guinness4Duff (515) - Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA - JAN 11, 2003
A bland beer, but it is very cheap and better than other similar style beers like coors and budweiser
