Pours deep dark brown, almost black. Aroma is dark chocolate, roast and coffee beans. Taste is dark chocolate bittersweet. Medium bodied with a crisp finish, surprised by the crispness. Best beer I’ve had from Lion, just a great beer all around.
From old tasting notes. Dark brown color, nearly opaque. Medium tan head. Slight malt nose. Slightly sweet flavor has little malt or hops to speak of. Thin bodied. Highly carbonated. Fritzo61 (1) - Warrenton, Virginia, USA - MAY 1, 2017 does not count
A very pleasant surprise. I remember my dad drinking this about 40+ years ago. I never gave it a second thought until I picked up a case on a recent trip back to northeast PA. I got to say I wish it was available in northern Va. A very smooth and satisfying porter with great taste, and good aroma. Pours better than your average American beer with a nice frothy head rising above the rim of the glass. anthony850 (473) - Andover, New Jersey, USA - JAN 19, 2015
Very smooth. Malty with hints of coffee and carmel.

From old notes - Pours near black with a big tan head that fades quickly. It smells of roast malt and a little chocolate. It tastes of sweet malt, a little roast, and chocolate. It’s light to medium bodied and seemed overly sweet for the style. Minimal hops. Mediocre. I’m surprised the ratings are as high as they are. I suppose if I see it again sometime I will give it another try. hotstuff (5233) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 22, 2014
Rated on 9-20-2010 (Bottle) This beer pours a small tan head with a short retention, opaque dark brown body, very little carbonation observed, and virtually no lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, sweet, and dark fruits. The taste is sweet, lightly bitter, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. The palate is lively carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is quaffable, but was short on maltiness for the style.

Pours oily black with a thin, dark tan head that dissipates quickly.
Prune, dark vinous fruit, coffee aroma.
Smoky, black cherry/ chocolate flavour....malty.
Acidic, sharp and toffee’d.
A very different porter...
Very enjoyable...imperial accents without the higher ABV. Melanie (65) - - JAN 28, 2013
Poured from a bottle- black, opaque with a nice tan head. Poor lacing. A nice, solid porter and a pleasant surprise from this old time brewery.
