The Hoogstraten Poorter is a dark and strong local beer of high fermentation and has a lovely sweet sense with a subtle aroma of roasted malt. With its bittersweet, full-bodied taste and velvety finish, the Hoogstraten Poorter is a unique beer in its range. This porter is being brewed in honour of the 800th birthday of the city of Hoogstraten.

Ceramic swing top bottle poured a clear amber with a small off white head. Aromas of brown sugar, fruity, and light spice. Palate was light and dry. Flavors of straw, honey and spice with a dry finish. Sure doesnt seem like a porter to me.

Bottle from World Market. Poured brown color with a large frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate toasted malty and citrus aroma. Light to medium body texture. Medium balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where not met.

Bottle, bought @ Poetzsh, Flensburg.
Pour is dark brown amber with a pretty, frothy off-white head. Aroma is nice and fruity, lots of berries, some apple, light tartness and a good dose of caramel behind it. Fresh and lively mouthfeel. Flavour is lightly tart, some raisins, a little chocolate, biscuits and oranges. Semi-dry.

Bottled @ DBF2004: Dark amber coloured. Light brown head. Malty and sweet nose. This is some shitty porter without any flavour what so ever. I can sense some vague smoke notes, but thats all. BORING.

"probably a bad bottle, but as it was my first time trying it, ill have to rate it from the one time. upon opening, the beer exploded out of the heavy ceramic bottle, and continued to overflow for several minutes. i was able to pour it with two fingers of head. i wasnt expecting a traditional porter (which it is not), but i dont know if the funkiness was on purpose or if the beer was totally spoiled, as i had no frame of reference. i was looking forward to trying a belgian porter, but as we had it, it poured thin, smelled funky, if not spoiled, had a thin mouthfeel and a rather unique, but ultimately boring flavor...like a flanders/porter hybrid. maybe ill try it again one day to see if what we had was a true representation of this beer, but at the price, it may be a while."
