COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A full bodied, smooth, cask conditioned ale, with an intense colour, rich malty taste and clean finish. Brewed using soft Scottish water, four types of malt, subtly balanced using only a small amount of the finest fresh hop cones.
Hops: Challenger
Malt: Maris Otter, Wheat, Crystal, Chocolate

On cask at The Bow Bar. Pours a dark brown colour with red tinge and a thin, light tan head. Aroma of caramel, coffee, dark malt and yeast. Similar flavours. A little thin with lingering yeast and caramel flavours. OK but not really my thing.

Cask conditioned at The Dagda Bar, Edinburgh. Chestnut with cream head. This is a dark, malty bitter, perhaps a touch thin, but fruity and creamy enough to keep it in good shape. Quite reasonable.

Cask at the Bow Bar. Pours a deep amber with a well-formed but short-lived head. Aroma is light coffee, malt and berries. Taste is sweet and smooth, with very little bitterness. Resiny and sweet, with a reasonable aftertaste. Not bad, very drinkable.

CAsk in Edinburgh. Very deep copper. Malty beer, a bit spicy. Gingerbread, caramel, vanilla. Some roasted grain, too. The bitterness is well hidden here.

Dark reddish-brown. The aroma has rich fruits and dark sugars. Sweetish, slightly fruity with caramel accents. Decent complexity. Soft body. Sweetish finish. A good one, their best beer.

Cask @ Guildford Arms. Garnet with a great head. Great bready aroma with currants. Flavors are similar with lots of sweet dried fruits, currants and sultanas. Good bread crust malt flavors. Very nice!

[email protected] Deep brown colour, small head. Aroma is bready and caramel malty, some mild dark dry fruits, mild leathery notes as well as some nuttyness. Flavour is mildly ashy, leathery, caramel malty and dark fruity. Quite pleasant.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2010 Cask @ The State Bar. Mild fruitcake aroma. Dark brown colour with reddish tinge. Fruitcake, biscuit and cereal flavour. Quite smooth.

Cask at 5th English Rose Beer Festival, Luton, Bedfordshire. Very dark brown. Sweet, musty aroma of ripening silage. Leathery taste with a hint of aniseed. Slight bitterness. Rough and rather pleasing.
