Bottle, from MoritzF, with my thanks for this very special sample. Warm orange amber color. Strong buttery apricot aroma. An upcoming, but not unpleasant sourness. Infection and diacetyl?? Cherry and apricot. Just a bit of hops in the background. Low on carbon. Should be something special from tap. pivnizub (10612) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - DEC 7, 2005
Bottle (courtesy MoritzF): Reddish amber coloured, thin foamy layer, rapidly vanishing; slightly chalky/malty, but mainly herbal ("english") hoppy nose; mild sweetish-bitter flavour; pretty smooth; distinctive aromatic hoppiness in the finish with some "chalky" notes again; quite light bodied; a weell made brew in the typical "Stiefel"-style.................... (on tap at the brew pub) Slightly hazy amber colour with a foamy off-white head. Slightly sweet caramel aroma with yeasts, liquorice and herbal hops, also dense fruity notes. Bittersweet and dry malty initial taste with yeasts, medium to light body, moderate carbonation, herbal hopbitter finish with liquorice. Proper made Märzen, but normally Stiefel-Jürgens´ top fermented brews are better, although I was a bit disappointed by the Stiefel collection this time. The bottled version of the Winterbräu is obviously weaker as the draught version (almost no head, low carbonation, all in all lighter and not so round and tasty).
