Taster glass. I think we may want to separate true Radlers from fruit beers, as a finished beer with juice or soda added before packaging is a different animal than one fermented with fruit. For one, this is intended to be low-alcohol, and for two, its not fair to be comparing this to a DFH Fort. That said, this is pretty tasty. Does not hide the fact that its light in alcohol, though probably the grapefruit adds some sugar calories. In fact, it does have a bit of an added sugar taste that might have been meant to keep the grapefruit from souring up the works. Not a world-beater, but recommended if I were ever actually "on the go."

Backlog rating. 500ml can @ Squamish Valley area. Pours into my mouth directly. Nose is sweet refreshing grapefruit. Flavour has slightly cracker malty aspect, however the sweet and only semi tart grapefruit prevails. Light mouthfeel with high carbonation. This was perfect for what I needed, hangover recovery beverage!

Poured from a 16 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear light yellow- pale gold color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is all grapefruit. The taste is a very refreshing grapefruit with some beer qualities thrown in. This is a very refreshing drink.

Pours a hazy light orange with a finger of goal that quickly dissipates into a tiny ring. Smells of grapefruit and sugar. Tastes much the same, a little bit of bitterness and acidity (grapefruit pith style, not hops) serves to balance the sweetness. Still very sweet, but very tasty and refreshing.

Tap. Hazy yellow color with white head. Aroma is grapefruit lemonade, and lots of it. Taste is refreshing, grapefruit lemonade, the cloudiness gives a nice smooth mouthfeel. Traces of bitterness in the finish. Great Radler, way better than Mohrens take on Grapefruit Radler.

330 ml bottle from Woodmans in Janesville, WI, served cold in a pint glass. Hazy pale gold, moderate fizzy head dying quickly to nothing...nose of fairly ripe, slightly sour grapefruit, very faint malt, a touch of pungent herbal character...very sweet initially, juicy and fruity, with only the faintest tart character, a decent bit of pale malt can be detected underneath, gradually developing a bit greater tartness or sourness towards the finish which is still fairly juicy and sweet going down...lightly syrupy, full body, moderate carbonation. I like grapefruit, and grapefruit juice, quite a bit, so this was certainly drinkable, but the sweetness is nearly cloying - it would be better with a bit more carbonation and dryness at the finish, and more than a hint of tartness. Still, not bad.

Pale yellow pour with short-lived white foam. Light grainy and citrus aroma. Taste is mildly sour with grapefruit zest bitterness. Mildly carbonated, thin bodied, and refreshing. Finishes dry (surprisingly) and not too sweet as the grapefruit character carries though. Very drinkable, and I can see why it has been the choice of bike tourists!

Pours a hazy straw colour with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet grapefruit and lemon zest. Taste is slightly cracker with the malt, but really overshadowed by sweet and mildly tart grapefruit. Light body, high carbonation. I really like this, for a radler.

Can. Hazy straw yellow in colour with medium carbonation. Aroma is singleminded sweet grapefruit cough drops. Flavors are of artificial sweet pink grapefruit and a bit of wheat. Weightier on the palate than expected, but there is enough tartness for a modicum of balance.

Can. Pours a cloudy, straw-yellow with a huge frothy white head that fades away quickly in a pint glas, leaving nothing but a small bubbly rim. Aroma of grapefruit pulp, hay, bitter grapefruit zests, herbal hops. Nice! Taste is actually quite dry - a good quality in a Radler if you ask me. Only light sweetness in the background, but mostly tart. Pretty soon dominated by a nice, light bitter finish with a reprise of grapefruit zest and herbal hops. Body is cloudy, medium, lively carbonated but not fizzy. Not watery at all.
I never liked Radler all that much, but I had to see what all the fuzz on american beer blogs is about. Not too sweet, not watery. Bubbly, but not dominated by fizzy carbonation. Some reviewers state that this has no beer characteristics. I disagree. From the first nose, there were clear beer notes. Clear herbal notes and hop bitterness. This is a Radler I could get used to.

(1920-140816)
