bartlebier (4123) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - MAY 20, 2017
(Backlog 2015-2016, 37,5cl, Geers) - Earthy, almost muddy chocolate powder going on ground chicory on a dry, slightly overcarbonated semi-Belgian body. Even more enjoyable as a dark saison: doesn’t really punch through with coffee/choco flavours, but satisfies nonetheless with plenty of "house" character. I suspect Stillwater helped keep this within style and reduce the surplus abvs a Belgian foreign stout would usually entail. MelvinKalksma (1719) - NETHERLANDS - FEB 28, 2017

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, liquorice, chocolate, roasted malts and coffee.
Opaque black beer with slight yeast and with a medium brown head.
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit, liquorice and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. This is even more true if you consider its abv. The farmhouse aspect is never distinctly noticeable, but helps create a great coffee in the finish together with the roasted malts. The aroma could have been stronger, but otherwise this beer is pretty damn great.
Bottle.Dark brown colour with medium beige head.Aroma is fruity of dar dried fruits and and nice bready and dark bread also hint of nuts and dark dry fruits nice and tart flavors and overall very nice type of beer. bluejacket74 (1995) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - JUL 3, 2016
375 ml caged and corked bottle, no dating on it that I noticed but I know I’ve had this bottle sitting in the fridge for a while. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like chocolate, dark bread, earthiness, dark fruit, and some peppery spice. The taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also the addition of some roasted malt and some herbalness. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and coating, and also well carbonated. I liked this more and more the longer I drank it, maybe I can still find a bottle or 2 sitting around somewhere. Definitely worth trying if you’ve never had it before. oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - MAY 26, 2016

0.375l bottle. Black body, light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, orange zest and nutmeg. Taste of chocolate, sour cherry, orange zest, cocoa and some floral hops. Very nice. onceblind (10530) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 1, 2016
Black pour with a rocky light tan head. Big farmy and musty nose full of roasted black malt and semisweet earthy cocoa. Big full flavor with lovely earthy and semisweet chocolate nuances, a bit of farm tones, a touch of belgo funk, and a earthy semisweet dark malty finish. Really pleasant and fun, albeit slightly too bubbly and carbonated.
