Beautiful brown/black with an inch of cocoa colored speckled head. Aroma is deep cocoa, some treacle, and a little dark fruit. Taste is mostly the same, but a touch overly woody, and an astringent mole asses twang with smokey phenolics into the finish. $4/12oz

Bottle from Good Spirits Co. Wine & Beer, Glasgow. Beer served in 10°C, Tulip Glass. Pours black, thick oily texture, condensed small head, great lacing. Aroma is roasty, slightly smoked, apple with brown sugar. Woody and oily flavor, plums hints, sweet and biscuity, earthy and spicy bitterness. Leaves coffee, slightly smoky and bitter aftertaste. A very dark beer with a beige head. This both smells and tastes sweet and a little sticky (maybe to cover the alcohol), perhaps more so than I’d like. That said, it grows on me and ends up working pretty well once the finish arrives. There is a pleasant dark toffee in there, and what lingers is a fairly dry roast with some smokiness. I may get some signs of wheat in there also, but they don’t dominate. Not majestic but solid. Unusally, Phil didn’t have this, as far as he is aware.
Opaque black beer, thin brown head. Smells of malt, toffee, chocolate. Flavour is chocolate, toffee, earthy malt, some dried fruit and then you really get the woodiness from the barrel-aging. That ends up leaving an aftertaste that’s smoky and almost tangy. Rich and hearty on top of all that. On tap at TCBW 2017. Pours black colour. Thin beige head. Metallic notes, smoke and hints of chocoate in the aroma. Cocoa, smoke, cocoanibs in the taste. Smoky finish. Rather medium bodied stout. Nothing surprising. Descent brew.
