It’s my pleasure to present a collaboration with The Brewer’s Art. A Baltimore institution that helped to pioneer the Belgian beer movement in the States. Brewed with a combination of Spelt & Rye, accented with a blend of Heather, Honeysuckle, and Hyssop. The result is a rustic farmhouse ale displaying earthy tones & floral characteristics while maintaining intricate balance.

NOTE: This is a different beer than the version brewed at Brewer’s Art.

Pours a clear golden/amber with a large pillowy head. Aroma is yeast, rye, bananas. Taste is very well balanced. Not overdone on the farmhouse funk and smooth creamy mouthfeel. Good beer. Interested in trying more from this brewer.

Bottle from Clapton Craft. Pours golden to amber with a white head. Aroma of fruits, berries, light peach, yeast, sweet caramel and flowers. Medium towards heavy sweetness, light bitterness, just a hint of sour. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is sweet, sticky and grassy. Not had many of this style, but this is the one I've enjoyed most.

Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, yeast, fruit, hops and spices.

Turbid/opaque orange/brown beer with no/a slight off-white head.

Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, yeast and fruit; ends slightly bitter and dry with hops and spices.

This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. Good balanced flavours, that never gets truly great at any point. Same goes for the aroma, but the appearance and palate are great.

Headless cloudy amber. Aroma is basement with pear/apple. Not sure what is heather, honeysuckle or hyssop in it, but it’s got a hibiscus/rosewater-like thing going. Carbonation is champagne esque, but with more sweetness and body. Taste adds melon and botanicals (licorice?). Pleasant, drinkable, interesting.

Bottle 355 ml from Craftgallery - Bern (CH). Golden beer tending to amber, average and cream head, serene sparkling. Malted aromas, floral perfumes, marshmallow. The taste is fresh, very soft and mellow, with fragance of a flowerbed and barley sugar. Spiced notes, honey, cherry, pepper, lemon and orange/honeysuckle blossom. Peppery and grassy bitter.

$2.75 bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours slightly hazy golden with no head. Aroma of honey, strawberry, melon. Flavor is sweet dark fruit, grain, burnt honey, perhaps a hint of orange. Interesting. Edited to add: as this beer warmed, the flavors burst out and I enjoyed it more. Bumping up overall by two points and taste by one.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a murky bright golden yellow color with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma is sweet fruit and yeast with some grain added. The taste is very close to the nose. Did not work for me.

Caramel and bread with hay. Taste: medium body with caramel malt backbone. Saison and fruity balance. Good attenuation. Aftertaste: sweet and fruity, good bitterness.

glennmastrange (2939) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - NOV 20, 2016
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of light bread, nutty and grain, light to moderate grass and herbs for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with dried light fruit and white wine and faint baking spice in the background. Head is large, frothy, slightly off-white, with some slippery lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear medium amber but hazy and has a few crumbs floating around. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and only slightly bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, slick with a lively carbonation and a smooth and faintly alcoholic finish. What an exceptional Biere de Garde!
