12 oz. bottle. Pours black, with a small, bubbly, tan head. Light caramel and chocolate notes, with a significant tangerine aroma coming forward. Some notes of walnuts and orange peels. Some light bread and esters. Sweet, with a light citrusy tartness. Light to medium body, a little oily and thin, and acidic. Overall, this is a very interesting beer, but it’s a little weak, and the citrus and roasted notes don’t really work that well together. Melkart (431) - Porto Alegre, BRAZIL - JUL 16, 2014
The aroma is a little bit toasted malt and a little bit saison yeast. Saison tipical taste. Balanced. Light body. mjmoen (584) - - JUL 15, 2014
Pours nearly black with brown head. Perhaps it’s not fresh, because it doesn’t taste that good to me. Yeast and metallic flavors. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JUL 12, 2014
Draft. Black pour with tan head. Light roasted aromas. Lighter dark malt tones, some saison tones. jbruner (5124) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JUL 5, 2014
Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of bubbly khaki head the leaves light webs. Aroma is faint, roast and crisp yeast esters, but hard to get. Taste is a little more there, special roast and chocolate malt, clean finish, odd esters, lager yeast mixed with farmhouse funk. Interesting idea, but a bit of a miss. Song is better than the beer.

Bottle. Shows BTLD 07/01/13. This is new to the area and I get a, nearly, 1 year old version. Let’s see if that is good or bad... Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and dark chocolate notes with hints of coffee, dark fruit, yeast and straw. Taste is funky yeast, tart berries, dark fruit, roasted malt, burnt caramel and coffee notes. Body is light-medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Finishes with more yeast and tart fruit notes, roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Maybe some toasted dark bread as well. Nice! Pours a finger of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is milk and roasted malt, but nicer than that sounds.
The taste has a dull bitterness that borders on metallic with a roasty malt profile towards the end.
The texture is crisp with a lot of fizzy carbonation.
It has a good flavor but the carbonation level was too high. Beergeek23322 (2602) - Chester, Virginia, USA - JUN 7, 2014
6/7/2014. 12 oz. bottle. Black with a tan head. Aromas of dark malt, yeast and dark berries. Some metallic flavors, spices, malt, yeast, chocolate, yeast. BOSSbrewer (2705) - Arkansas, USA - MAY 30, 2014
Pours very dark brown with three fingers of tan head. Flavor is slight roast. Some yeastiness. A little tartness. Fairly dry. Nice beer but not on a par with some of their others. nuplastikk (6420) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 6, 2014
Tap. The black saison is one of my favorite styles, in theory. Opaque black with a respectable beige head. The chocolate malt really balances out the saison yeast. Easy going, with an herbal, earthy undertone. A successful hybrid for sure. Great balance, unique flavor. Very nice.
