Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark brown pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of slight berry, grape, hints of oak, slight smoke, touch of grain, biscuit, roast and slight coffee, toffee. Bottle. Licorice and peppercorn-spiced black malt. Burnt grains, crackers and breads; nicely toasty; notes of cocoa, licorice, ink, char. Highly carbonated, seemingly sweet, tasting of saccharin and burnt cola / caramel with an astringent, lean sweet-and-sour cookie finish. Twangy and a bit thin in the body. Bottle. Clean and dark charred wood black with one finger of mocha tan head. Nose is nice, shows a round subtle sweetness and bready malt notes with a touch of burnt toast and earthy/bubblegumy yeast notes. Dry and peppery on the flavor. Pours jet black with thin head. Light nose of chocolate. Tastes lightly grassy, of chocolate, resin, dark fruits, smoke, and some yeast. Touch thin but pretty tasty.

Pours black with a little red around the edges and a tan head. Aroma is spicy yeast. Spicy pepper up front, little bit of metallic taste also, just enough to be unpleasant. Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is mildly earthy with a hint of sour. Maybe. Med body. Flavor is touch of sour with following earthiness and some chocolaty malt. It’s much better than I make it sound. This is really good stuff, and the flavor profile is very unusual. Bottle into nonic pint. Pours black, slight tan head. Vegetal, spicy, roasted aroma. Taste is veggies, vinegar, roast, a bit metallic. Definitely interesting but nothing great. Would be better if it chose one style instead of trying to straddle some line.
