Bottle. Pours a dark brown with little head that left quickly, thin off white lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, yeast, light wheat and faint roast. Mouthfeel is thin with notes of sweet malt, yeast, spice, cocoa, roast, and a sweet finish.

Deep dark reddish brown. No head, almost completely still.
Smells of charcoal and brownies. Hazelnut and raisins, with sugary caramel. A tad on the saccharine side but not too cloying. Some seriously earthy, horsey barnyard funk, son.
The taste is more horsey, saison stuff, stone fruits (raisins/dates mostly), heavy yeast. The coffee is subdued, as is the hazelnut. The puckery sourness comes in at the end.
Chalky finish, thick and coarse. For being such a small abv, it has a ton of flavor.

Solid black saison, mild funk but would have liked a bit more. Easy drinker at 5%. Would drink again but not a favorite. jtclockwork (17264) - , New Jersey, USA - SEP 11, 2013

9/7/13. 12oz bottle thanks to BlackIPA. Hmmm... BlackIPA sends me a black saison. Coincidence? I think not. Schwarzbier? My label says small black saison. That descriptor fits better. Spicy, fruity, too much banana for sure. Hot. Meh. bb (9789) - Alamo, California, USA - SEP 6, 2013
Draft. Blackish beer with a dark cream head. Citrus and light grass aroma. Citrus and light grass flavor with light malt. Medium bodied. Citrus and grass linger with light malt and light darker malts. blankboy (7808) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 3, 2013
Bottle [355ml]. Pours a very dark amber-brown with a large lasting frothy tan head. Aroma is yeasty, sugary sweet and roasty along with pepper, dark fruit, cocoa and earthy notes. Slightly watery flavour follows the aroma along with a hint of metal and/or sourness. The Farmhouse quality of the beer comes out slightly more in the flavour. Light to average bodied. Just good, I didn’t love it. GODiSSOUTHERN (390) - Virginia, USA - AUG 31, 2013
Dry very light beer with roasted malt. A touch of sour. Some light chocolate and coffee in the finish. MacBoost (1936) - Victor, New York, USA - AUG 31, 2013
Bottle, $3/12oz. Pours a pretty thin looking black with an off white looking head that faded quickly. Im getting some Belgian type yeast notes in the nose along with some light roast. Neate. Taste is kind of Schwarzbier-like, but how the H can it be a Schwarzbier if its top fermented? Beats me. We are all going to be sucked into the vortex...
