Bottle. Totally black color, dark brown head that settles to an edge. Aroma of bitter coffee and unsweetened cocoa. Taste has burnt espresso, licorice. Very tasty. Leighton (21258) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 31, 2014
Bottle at home in Salisbury, CT - picked up in MA. Pours brown with a large, frothy khaki head that quickly settles into a cream. Pleasant aroma, some yeast, dark bread, dried dark fruits, earth. The flavor, though, isn’t awesome. Minimal sweetness, some tangy dark fruits, charred malts, dirt. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Further mild tangy, dark fruits onthe finish, bittle charred wood, grains, earth, faint baking cocoa. Meh. mcberko (17847) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 19, 2013
12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head - looks like a stout. Nose brings out lots of roasted malt, some earthy notes, a touch of farmhouse character, and some unsweetened cocoa. Flavour is quite sophisticated, bringing out typical black saison qualities above all - with roasted malt, farmhouse notes, earth, along with some highly astringent citrus notes on the finish. Drinks more like an astringent citrusy black saison rather than a hybrid with a schwarzbier. The more you drink, the more astringent and almost sour the finish becomes, which throws it off a bit. Still very solid, but could do with less citric / astringent qualities. yngwie (17053) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - AUG 10, 2013
Bottle, 12oz. It’s a clear-looking dark brown beer topped by a dense, light beige head. The aroma is rather weak, with some sourish berry notes and a little dark malty touch. A bit low on flavor too, but not bad considering the style. Not that it is very much to style though. Some berry notes and a little bitterness too. The body is medium to full, with a pleasant level of carbonation. Style set as Schwarzbier for this one, strange I think as it’s made with Saison yeast. But anyway, it drinks easy and is quite tasteful too, although a tad ordinary. In a way. 130810 jtclockwork (16600) - , New Jersey, USA - SEP 11, 2013

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is mildly earthy with a hint of sour. Maybe. Med body. Flavor is touch of sour with following earthiness and some chocolaty malt. It’s much better than I make it sound. This is really good stuff, and the flavor profile is very unusual. Good! Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, fruittiness, yeast and spice. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, tobacco, licorice, yeast and light spice with a crisp dry lingering licorice finish. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 16, 2013

A clear dark brown saison with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with dark fruits, herbaceous character, wild weed and molasses. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light grassy character, licorice, light curacao. Overall, interesting. Sampler at Battle of the Belgians at Jimmys 43.
