Poured from bomber into a snifter glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazy orange amber color with a small fizzy white head. The head fades very fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass and some island of bubbles on the surface of the brew.
Smell – The aroma is massive of a sweet grapefruit smell as might have been expected from an IPA brewed with grapefruit peel. Along with the grapefruit however are some aromas of a malty and sweet nature of lighter tropical fruit smells and some more biscuit like aromas. Other hop aromas are there as well, with a bit of dank pine and some grass rounding out the aroma rather nicely.
Taste – The taste begins with a drier cracker taste mixed with a big grapefruit hop flavor. There is however some sweetness with a bit of tangerine and a little bit of caramel and peach. While quite dry up front, the taste dries out even more as the flavor advances with a loss of the sweeter peach and caramel and even more bitter grapefruit coming to the tongue. Other hop flavors of a pine and hay nature come to the tongue more toward the middle and the end of the taste. A boozy flavor all the while develops on the tongue as these flavor transitions take place. In the end, with all the flavors that end up coming and going from the taste, one is left with a quite grapefruit bitter, somewhat resinous, and boozy dry IPA flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. In light of the drier and huge grapefruit hop flavors, the body really shines as it accentuates these well all while not overdoing it as to make them too overwhelming (which they are on the brink of..).
Overall – Big of a bitter in grapefruit taste with a slightly drier flavor overall. While not one I would want to have over and over again it was an interesting try as it has a strong but quite drinkable grapefruit bite. ADfan (877) - Orange County, California, USA - OCT 12, 2014
Beer has a golden color with a nice head. Aroma of pine and citrus. Taste mostly hops with some tartness. No malt at all. Grapefruit and spice come through on the taste. Average beer. shigadeyo (3788) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 10, 2014
10/10/2014: Stone Grapefruit Slam IPA... Golden-copper color with an off-white crown. There is some suspended sediment. Grapefruit peel, honeycomb malt, slightly soapy. The flavor is soapy grapefruit, slightly floral, toffee malt; ample bitterness (although it’s very earthy, something just isn’t sitting right with me and it’s not going down well right now), but maybe not sitting well with me for the style. White grapefruit flavor and bitterness definitely dominates. Medium-bodied, slick and oily. This beer is MUCH better fresh. I enjoyed it the; now, not so much. I’m actually fairly disappointed and this beer is not making me feel well. I don’t think I can finish my share (bottle split 3 ways)... 22 fl. oz. bottle. Poured from bomber a bright copper orange with thin lacey white head. Aromas of big grapefruit peel, orange zest, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, light caramel and floral/grassy earthiness. The grapefruit flavour comes into play; however, it is quickly taken over by harsh resiny hops that shows citrus, pine, spice, earthiness and is quite harsh and resiny. An ok double, but I had higher expectations. Shame on me.

Hazy with full head. Grapefruit makes a late appearance, more caramel with booze and liberal dry-hopping. italianjohn (3250) - Penndel, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 31, 2014

Golden pour. Grapefruit hop aroma. Fruit sweet May up front, bitter grapefruit finish. Very nice, I had this one once before and I like it better this time. slowrunner77 (12804) - Reno, Nevada, USA - AUG 30, 2014
"This one just screams have me for breakfast! Grapefruit candy sweetness and some fairly aggressive bitterness in there as well. They play off each other well. A delicious one dimensional IIPA." sitzds (318) - - AUG 30, 2014
22oz bottle shared and poured into shaker pints. Clear amber body with a 2-finger white head. Patchy lacing and good retention. Very strong grapefruit peel aroma, with citrus juice, caramel, cracker, and herbal undertones. Taste follows the nose: grapefruit juice and peel play sweet and bitter, other citrus peel, caramel malt sweetness, and some hoppy herb bite compliment the intended thrust. Medium body, resinous texture, moderate carbonation, strongly bitter, dry finish.
