6.6%ABV. Smoked Porter.
Poured out black brown. 38 SRM.
Nose has roasted malt aroma with burnt barley bread, burnt toast, coffee with hint of creamy, dark chocolate.
Mouthfeel is soupy and thick. Palate has roasted malts, burnt bread crusts, charcoal, dark fruit raisins, dates, plum jam, black honey. Hint of spiciness in the palate referencing the jalapeños , but no freshness. Hops may be spicy, but I can’t really tell that apart from the smoked jalapeño flavor.
Finish is carbon, burnt twigs, mildy astringent. Surprisingly not unpleasant.
Overall, I liked this one despite me deciding beforehand that I wasn’t going to...kudos, Stockade!

230217. Bottle from Beer Cartel. Great porter with plenty going for it. Looks great with a dark as midnight black colour. Slight heat in the finish is a nice touch. Licorice and chocolate flavours. Finishes well. bitterlady (74) - - JAN 25, 2017
Triple smoked licorice dark, aniseed nose, meaty but not too overpowering, creamy head, trickstar brew, pull me push me to chocolate or bacon. Here, matched with a good scotch filllet, smoked peppers, caramalised onions and gruyere, jalapeno mayonnaise, cinnamon sweet potatoes you have a match made in heaven. This porter goes best with food, not an after sipper by the fire, moorish Davros (3212) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 15, 2017
Pours black with a small head.
Nose shows smoked malt, soft chipotle notes and cocoa.
Flavours include light smoke, chocolate, roasted malt and soft caramel. hawthorne00 (3992) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 30, 2016
Bottle. Almost black with a fading tan head. Aroma of chiles, bread, milky mocha. Smoke is not obvious. On the light side of medium bodied, smooth texture. Sweet mocha, very mild roasted flavours. A bit vague with the malt side of things. Chile seems to barely register at all at first but creeps up: it’s fruity and slightly peppery rather than hot. Sits OK with modest bitterness at the end. Again, not much smoke at all. Adequate.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2016 Nice and dark with a fair amount of brown head. Big smoky aroma and some chocolate. Taste is also smoky with a little chocolate bitterness, jalapeno is very mild. A little thin on the palate, and taste doesn?t linger for long. Still a great beer though. ComradeK (1240) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - NOV 13, 2016
330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a small tan head, which fades fairly quickly, and doesn’t leave much lacing. The aroma offers smoke, a hint of chilli and roasty malt. Chilli heat up front gives way to a smooth, malty body, with a little milk chocolate. The finish is dry and roasty, with a hint of smoke. Pretty decent. On tap at Brewski. Near black with thin head and distinct aroma of jalapenos. The smokey chocolate malt character works well with a peppery zing in the tail. Had a couple and the spice buildup was not obtrusive. A very nice porter. Muggus69 (2532) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - NOV 4, 2016
330mL bottle from Booze Bud.
Deep dark near-black brown body with a dense tan head.
Nice malty aroma - dark chocolate, licorice, charred nuts, good hit of smoke & dried chilli.
Smooth, somewhat creamy sort of texture, body is full, moderate carbonation.
Like the mix of flavours - chocolate, dark sugars, smoke, burnt toast, touch of sort of (dried) chilli with perhaps the faintest hint of heat. Smooth finish, reasonably sweet.
Enjoyed this, the chilli component could easily be overlooked/gimmicky, but it adds (along with the smoked malt) that extra bit of complexity that makes this beer. Dervock (1379) - AUSTRALIA - OCT 14, 2016
Bottle - pours black with an off white head. Aroma is smoke, Chocolate and green chilli. Taste is chocolate with a bit of chilli and a smokey roast taste. Bit of peppery heat in the finish.
