COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. It’s triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Belgian Strong Ale is the closest category that fits -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO. In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/020202
In 2002 we began our groundbreaking, millennium-inspired series with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale. This bumped up Belgian-style wit—made all the more alluring thanks to an infusion of orange peel, coriander, a sprinkling of black pepper and a healthy dose of Centennial hops—was a bright way to begin this epic eleven-part vertical tasting.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2006 an update, 24 Dec 2006, I just had some of this on draft at Stone’s Winter Storm at their Stone World Bistro. It’s in great shape. Golden colored, fruity with a great finish. The balance is fantastic. Can’t believe it’s nearly 5 years old. honey colored, w/ a great nose & flavor. Stone’s description is accurate. It is ’trippel-ish’. Very nice

Pours a great orange like hazy gold with a very lively white head. Aroma is apricot, orange, banana, yeast, hay, honey. Taste is very similar, notes of apricot, yeast, stronger honey than in the nose, citrus, and a nice touch of zest bitter at the end.

It was great to finally be able to have an opportunity to compare this to someone's homebrewed clone. It stood up well which makes me wish I'd been able to try the original. This is one of those great beers that everyone should try fresh at least once in their lives.

Aroma / Appearance - The semitransparent body glows and glimmers under a pure white head. Bananas, yeast, and fresh esters brighten the air and spirit. A vibrant feel could not possibly have survived ten years without fading to a ghost of its former self.

Flavor / Palate - Honey, almonds, and bananas sweeten the palate. The transition of fresh daisies carries to a robust conclusion. Stone is clearly still on top of their game as this affordable bomber demonstrates. Hopefully I can get my hands on a few more re-releases from these earlier entries. They will certainly be on the top of my list in future shopping trips.

Pours hazy light gold with a fat, lumpy, foamy white head. Aroma is yeast, coriander and a bit of orange peel. Taste follows and adds some lemon and a bangin' closing hop bitterness over a grain backbone. Refreshing golden Belgian IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Frothy white head stayed on an effervescent, translucent, copper coloured body. Aroma of peach, nectarine, haribos & flora. Medium bodied, soft & airy on the palate - clean & very dry dry on the back. This beer is so dry with tastes of bitter orange, lemon, pith & lots of spices
