COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. Its triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Belgian Strong Ale is the closest category that fits -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO. In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/020202
In 2002 we began our groundbreaking, millennium-inspired series with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale. This bumped up Belgian-style witmade all the more alluring thanks to an infusion of orange peel, coriander, a sprinkling of black pepper and a healthy dose of Centennial hopswas a bright way to begin this epic eleven-part vertical tasting.

Bottle. Moderate light bread, grain and cereal for the malt, light to moderate perfume for the hops, light dough and dried leaves for the yeast, with notes of apricot, banana and a hint of clove in the background. Head is average sized, frothy, white with nice slippery lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is sparkling clear medium amber. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, slick with a lively to fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic and astringent finish. Great Belgian Strong Ale with a nice array of aromas. Theres something meaty about it too.

Got a bomber at Whole Foods in Wexford. This hoppy Belgian has just the right balance, not easy to do. Refreshing but with good body. A nice frothy head. slightly cloudy light yellow body.

Bottle from the 20th Anniversary series. I find this to be almost unbelievable to have in my glass so glad this was made again for Stones anniversary. Truly one of the first white whales. A nice, sturdy Belgian ale with light spice and esters, very drinkable. Beautiful golden color with a little white head and oily slick top.

7.5%ABV. Belgian Poured out gold. 8SRM. Nose is wine, wood, dust. A little more wine and cider in the nose than a traditional Belgian. Mouthfeel is sour, beery. Palate has rich malty with graham cracker, light honey. Hops are orange peel, and light pine and earthy. Spices were coriander and nutmeg.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep golden color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and limited retention. Aroma of peppery notes with some strong coriander notes with some wheat notes is quite interesting. Taste is a nice mix of coriander with some subtle peppery notes with some residual sugar from the wheat malt notes is quite nice. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not sure how it compares to the original but nice drinking this one.

22oz bottle poured into a Snifter at 41. Color is a bright clear gold with good carbonation and a small white head. Aroma is slightly sweet giving malt, citrus and yeast scents. It has a lighter medium body with a crisp light mouth feel. Flavor is bright malts with some citrus and spice followed by a faint Belgian yeast. After taste is dry with a citrus bitterness that comes across with an orange note. Overall its a tasty Belgian Golden Strong Ale.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Aroma is spicy Belgian yeast, coriander, fruits, soft floral notes, with a touch of hops. Flavour is sweet and surprisingly bitter for a Belgian style strong ale, though I guess I shouldnt have been surprised coming from Stone. Medium bodied, enjoyable stuff.
