COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. It’s triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. In 2002 we began our groundbreaking, millennium-inspired series with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale. This bumped up Belgian-style wit—made all the more alluring thanks to an infusion of orange peel, coriander, a sprinkling of black pepper and a healthy dose of Centennial hops—was a bright way to begin this epic eleven-part vertical tasting.

solid. strong orange aroma. citrusy flavor with some honey and balanced hop profile. pretty good.

An Imperial White Ale (or a Double White), with an I.B.U. around the 45-50 range. Only 300 cases produced. Somewhat sweet initially. Finish was bitter with a fairly aggressive hop bite. I drank it young. Couldn’t wait until 2012.

Had from bottle on April 18, 2003 at the Suffed Sandwich
I only have one of these bottles in storage which I am saving until the suggested opening date, so having a bottle presented to me at the Stuffed Sandwich was a great opportunity. The beer has a citrusy/hoppy aroma with a slight cloudy yellow appearance and no head. Great flavor with a hint of fruit and a slight bitterness. Nicely done - waiting until it's been aged much longer to see how it performs.

Thank you Beardedbastard, I never thought I would have tried this beer if you hadn't been so kind to bring one to the SoCal Gathering. This slightly cloudy golden elixir is topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is slightly sweet and fruity (raspberry, lemon) with a sour note and a slight yestiness. The flavor is slighlty sour yet slightly bitter with a slight fruitiness and a slight sweetness. Medium bodied and dry.

I thought for sure that I had had this. Attractive, moderately-sized carbonation, in a clinging white head on a hazy dark yellow body. Beautiful aroma--flowers so big I might have to shoo away bees in a minute, plus bubblegum, canteloupe, banana, a touch of coconut, and good yeast influence. Easy drinking, with a sophisticated touch at the end.

Bomber. Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with notes of orange, coriander, wheat and black pepper. Pours clear golden colored with a thin white head that has decent retention but little lacing. Starts with wheat malt flavors with mild non-citrus fruitiness and orange citrus. Finishes quite dry with Belgian yeast, pepper, coriander and a slight amount of hops to finish it off. Quite nice.

Bottle-Pours bright deep orange hue with some floaties and a small spritzy white head and sparse lacing. very phenolic nose of corriander. orange peal, lemon zest, almost smells like a big wit beer with some more trippel-ish notes. Flavors are great-lots of orange peal, lemon zest, belgian malt base, carbonation is prickly but yet not too strong. finish if somewhat abrupt with lingering phenols and slight bitterness. Very cool brew and wish i was able to have the original when it was fresh.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 7/22/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal/citrus peel bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is a great imperial witbier! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Quite hoppy for the base style, but not enough to make it feel like an IPA. The traditional witbier flavors are the main showcase. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle from Sprout’s: Poured a golden straw hue with a firm layer of foam head. Aroma smells strong with authentic Belgian ale yeast that brings about scents of clove, coriander seed, sage, banana, and a faint background bubblegum. The drink is bold with the same flavors as mentioned from the aroma except has more taste of herbs such as sage or dried tarragon and comes across as dry on the palate. Taste like a true Belgian ale or a hearty witbier style, but I am just overall happy that this beer had a re-make because it was the only vertical epic I had missed finding back in the day.
