A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. Its triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Belgian Strong Ale is the closest category that fits -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO. In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/020202
In 2002 we began our groundbreaking, millennium-inspired series with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale. This bumped up Belgian-style witmade all the more alluring thanks to an infusion of orange peel, coriander, a sprinkling of black pepper and a healthy dose of Centennial hopswas a bright way to begin this epic eleven-part vertical tasting.

This vertical epic was a great beer. It had a smooth taste with a light pineapple flavor. It had a light head with a golden color.

Bottle from LCBO. Spicy and slightly sour yeasty aroma. Very dry taste. Spicy and a little boozy in the finish. Fine, but as a Stone fan I thought Id like it more.

Bottle from the LCBO. Slightly hazy medium gold under a small fluffy white head that lingers. Nose is wheat, yeast, orange, coriander and pepper, and banana. Light+ fruity sweetness with a bit of tartness in the middle. Spice is a bit distracting throughout but creates a quite dry finish. Mouth is medium with slightly prickly carbonation. Interesting. 8+/4/7-/4-/15

650ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a fairly big foamy bubbly white head and has a pale golden appearance. Excessive carbonation. Some thick dirty lacing remains. Aromas of orange peel, tropical fruit notes, hints of spices. Flavours are mostly citrusy and floral hop notes, zesty, the orange peel is quite noticeable with some more floral hops and a bit of hoppy bitterness to finish off. Some nice subtle spice notes eventually make an appearance. Medium/full bodied mouthfeel. Great retention. A good balance of sweetness and bitterness. Pretty easy going, smooth and drying sensation on the palate. Good stuff.

Pours a fairly clear but impressively bright peach-honey orange. Head is not large but settles almost instantly. Aroma is big, with sugary sweet tropical fruit notes mixed in the usual belgian wheat qualities; honey, peach, papaya, banana, sweet orange, yeasty esters... lovely. Taste is a great mix of sweet, spicy and dry. Boozy and astringent peach elements meld with the sweeter tropical fruit and orange. Orange peel really shines through, in a way that compliments the other flavours. Some faint nutmeg and caramel malt character. Big, complex, high-quality flavours - this is great stuff. Its not a style I have a ton of experience with, but I can confidently say its the best of its kind that Ive had.

2017-01-20. Crisp yellow body, modest off white head. 3+ Aroma is pungent, floral herbal herbaceous notes. Flavour has similar herbal spice quality, fairly bitter throughout. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. 3+ decent but the herbal spice character is not entirely to my taste, Id probably enjoy this just a bit more if I was more in the mood for it. 7/3/7/3/14+ Encore Series Bottle from the LCBO shared by HogTownHarry.
Overheard: "I cant believe Harry has a cord that long."

Bomber from the lcbo. Tropical fruit Aroma, lots of yeasty esters, some bitter citrus oils, and some light spice. Effervescent mouth feel, and lively carb. Finish is medium to highly bitter with a very dry, bitter bite. Dry cardamon flavour with lots of yeast and tropical fruit. Reminds me of a dialed up tripel. I dont see age helping this much, fresh would be best I think on this one.
