A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

On tap 4 oz. pour at Churchkey in Logan Circle neighbohood, Washington, DC on 12/12/12. Hazy, translucent tiger-stripe orange with just the fringe of an off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of fruit, banana, caramel and herbs. Taste of yeast, sweet caramel and sugar malts, apricot, banana, cloves and other spices. Mellow and well rounded. Medium body and low carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clearer amber with a white head. The aroma brings some refreshing, dare I say spritzy, lime sweetness still after 8 years! The flavor brings a still somewhat crisp, lightly sweet, golden ale with residual pleasant flavors of the lime and notes of the Belgian yeast. Wow - still holding up overall pretty well after 8 years.

Bottle, shared at Brendans 12/12/12 party! Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a small white head that fades. Light aroma, of yeast, a hint of bandaid, malt, sugar. Taste is bright and sweet, of malt, yeast, sugar, wheat, a hint of lime, banana, caramel. Lingering lime and wheat. Not as nice as the others, but not bad.

12-12-12, tap. Dark yellow, clear, some steady bubbles. Nose is sweet alcohol strong ale, light lemon maybe, thin body and lightly fizzy. Golden ale, faint pepper, some faint banana, maybe rock candy. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Churchkey 12.12.12. Hazy peach pour. Nice notes of apricot, clementine, coriander and spice on the nose and tongue. Clean and nicely dry. Pretty tasty.

Bomber thanks to someone a bit ago. Pours a cloudy orange color with a medium white head. The aroma is a stale cuppa tea, some grains and lemon. The flavor is also tea-like with some paper, light fruit and banana. Of course it is downhill, but I kind liked it.

Aroma of caramel and herbal. Taste was caramel, herbal and mint. Past its prime, footbalmed.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle. This shows solid signs of oxidization. Fruity, cardboard, mint, peach. This finished very dry. Meh.

Cloudy gold - amber beer. Small off white head. Light semi soft palate. Sweet tripel like malts with herbs and spice. Seamless blend of ginger, lemon, floral things and a little sherbet. Finishes semi soft and semi dry. A few oxidisation notes at the start but they burned off quickly. If you have one of these - I would drink now!

Bought this bottle, just to try and I wasnt dissapointed. Yes it has overtones of bananas and first taste I could definitely taste chilis on my palette. A thin white head when poured from bottle. Heavy carmel coloring that has definite appeal to it. I was quite surprised by the taste. I would use this as a opening beer on a tasting tray. I think it would surprise even the most discerning beer drinker.
