COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

"a strong saison indeed...or an UBER hefe...either way...pretty good stuff here. i wasn’t a big belgian fan when i first tried this but it sent me down that road. tasted mellower but possibly better 2 years later - haven’t had one since."

Had in March 2009, days short of the five-year mark of the bottle. First impression: It can’t be a hefe, but it strongly smells and tastes like a hefe, with orange and a unique kick-in of lime taste. Marvelous one-of-a-kind. Not lasting head, lighter colour.Above average mouthfeel.

Bottle shared by Tim, thanks! Pours a clear amber with a white head that starts at the edges and dissipates completely. Aroma has notes of light flora and musty grain with a bit of earthiness. Flavor has light grain with a decent of mustiness.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2010 Rerate:
Bottled. Tasted as blind # 8 @ yesprs. Orange coloured. Full of floaties. Dense off white head. Aroma of citrus, herbs, flowers and perfume. Flavour is perfumed, sweet, flowery, herbal and light grapy. Medium to full bodied. Grapy herbal bitterness in the end. Nice. Lagering has done this beer good.
Bottled 17.11.04: Golden coloured. Off white head. Light spiced sweet and malty aroma. Fruity, light citric, light hopped and malty flavour. Is a little bland I think. Ends with some alcahol burnt on the palate and lips and is medium bitter. 7-3-8-3-14

Pours an amber color with a hardly any head. Aroma of raisins, bread, and honey. Taste is bread, oxidation, banana and wet basement wood. This one suffered a bit from time.

Bomber at RBSG. Golden pour, white head. A bit old, some vegetable soup elements. Sweet - grape and fig. Okay.

Crystal clear, light golden ale with a very small, creamy, white head. Spicy aroma with notes of lemon, banana, bubble gum, coriander and nutmeg. The flavor is very decently balanced despite the incredibly rich malt. Tangy and sweet. Full-bodied with a very oily mouthfeel and pillow-soft carbonation. Dry, spicy finish. I get no lime out of this beer in any way, shape or form. I hate lime anyway.

DocLock (11108) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2004
Pours turbid orangish with a John Madden sized white head. Aroma just like a bier de garde aroma, with citrus, malt, hops, some fruit, florals, peat, and slight lime. Tastes citrusy, dry, very bier de gardish, with a final dry, slightly sour burst of citrus, lime, peat, and banana. Good complexity and well hidden alcohol.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with a small diminishing white head. The aroma is citrus hops (could be lime, but I think more lemony) and sweet caramel malts. The flavor is much of the same. The fact that this beer was not quite up to the 03 was disappointing. I wounder how this will age? Any chance it improves? Time will tell.
