Aroma of alcohol, bread, yeast, and some hops. Pours a pale gold with a small white head. Taste is great - bannanas, cloves, bread, spicy hops, lemon, grass. Although the alcohol is prevalent in the aroma, it is very well-hidden in the flavor profile - actually it’s almost unnoticable. Fantastic combination of citrusy American hops with Belgian malts. Very drinkable and enjoyable. carl4beer (522) - Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA - DEC 8, 2008
22oz. pours golden with small white head. aroma is a soft hoppiness with some spice in the background. mouthful is a big cross of hop and spice in a nice balanced way. there are hints of fruit as well as some citrus and clove, lots going on. one of the best hoppy belgians i have had. ben4321 (6510) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 17, 2009

Location: Bottle at Nerd Beer Epic Weekend, 1/26/13
Aroma: The nose is still grapefruity, it has nice spice, sweet malts, and some fruity notes
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with a small white head and light, spotty lace
Flavor: The taste leans sweet, but it has some spice and just a little bit of hops left too
Palate: The body is medium, it has a clean feel, some some stickiness, and a light dry finish
I think this one has held up really nicely, I was surprised that there’s even a little amount of the hops left. Really solid.

First one of the Vertical Epics I have tried, and it was really tasty. Stone is definately one of the best American brewhouses out there.
Exquisite bouquet of pine needle and thistle within a funky apple and clove base, moderate strength. Clear golden, medium head. Initial taste of funk and clove, takes on a fruity apple/pear and strawberry character at midpalate and finishes with a bit of bitter grass. Lovely transitions, delightful complexity. Great beer. Blind taste this to a friend and s/he’ll swear it’s from Belgium. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - NOV 30, 2010
Poured a hazed apricot with a pretty nice head. The smell is a bit of sweet malt, spices, and citrus. THe taste was quite the same with some more Belgian yeast in there, with the citrus flavors coming a bit to the front. Mouthfeel was pretty big as a result of the sweetness. Quite drinkable.

Pours deep golden hue, minimal foam. Nice spicy funky aroma, touch of hop bitterness. Taste is sweet funky spicy with middling hot resin hops. Some clove and banana in the middle palate before a spicy warm ABV finish. Tight, well- balanced brew. Great stuff. adamah (214) - California, USA - APR 20, 2013
The aroma was nice, fruity and spicy. It poured a beautiful pale golden color. The taste was sweet up front but had a nice clean, dry finish. I didn’t get any hop character out of it though perhaps it didn’t age well. Still an excellent beer. egajdzis (6589) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 4, 2008
[BCTC 08] Poured a lightly hazy, darker amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, caramel malts, light spices, and citrus fruits. Taste of caramel, resiny pine, spices, light tobacco, and alcohol in the finish. jayme9874 (756) - Hamburg, New York, USA - AUG 6, 2008
Slightly cloudy, golden yellow. Decent head and lace. Big aroma of tropical fruit, powdered sugar, citric hops, perfume and others. Medium bodied, slick, almost creamy, lots of spiciness, pale malts come out for a minute but the simcoes jumo all over the palate. Nice mix of flvors, the bitterness works here, nothing overdone. Extremley drinkable for a 8.4% brew and I must say i am liking it, one of my favorites of the VE series. No clue how it will age, have to assume hops will fade and hopefully yeast contiues to work to make this a big ,not too sweet estery bomb. nqualls (1452) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 9, 2008
22 oz bomber from J. Barleycorn’s in Nashville. Poured a clear light gold color with a four finger white head. Aroma was floral and citrus. Some yeast notes too. The flavor was similar to the aroma. Some citrus notes with a floral hop bite. Well balanced. This was a great beer.
