Celebrating the Vertical Epic series
P: Dark orange slight haze and tan head. Slight lacing.
S: Sweet fruit cake, bourbon, vanilla bean, dank booze that burns my eyes when smelling the glass. Chocolate and cocoa powder.
T/M: Not a huge difference with the wine barrels but does develop the flavors nicely. The taste follows the nose with added smoke and dark chocolate. Full bodies creamy and nice carbonation. Fun fishes smooth and prrogressive drying.
O: Event though the change was not dramatic I prefer the barrel aged version. It’s not overpowering and doesn’t distract from the great base flavor. The cocoa still shines through nicely.

Opaque black color with a small tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted notes, cocoa, citrus, vanilla, and wood. Taste of roasted malts, dark chocolate, red wine, vanilla, and a semi sweet finish. On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe for Big Wood 2013, pours jet black with a creamy brown head. Nose brings out wood, bourbon, a little red wine and some roast. Flavour brings out red wine notes atop roasted malt, Belgian yeast, and a little oxidation notes. Very well-balanced, with a thick, creamy palate. Moderately roasty-woody, barley-wine-esque with a boozy edge. Boozy aroma. Deep brown in color.

On tap @ 38 Degrees Alehouse. Black color. Beige head, long lasting. Good lace. Aroma’s: red wine, bitter chocolate, raisins, roasted. Flavor: medium sweet, roasted, bitter chocolate, red wine. Medium bodied. Finishes bitter.
