COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is quite a complex and layered beer. Bold and smooth chocolate malt flavors combine with a Belgian yeast lending tropical fruit/banana flavors and hints of spiciness, all complemented by citrus notes from an addition of tangerine peel. Rich vanilla beans add a nice counter to the chocolate malt - actually enhancing the chocolatiness. The finish is smooth, with additional traces of vanilla and toasted characters from French Oak. The goal for this edition of the Stone Vertical Epic Ale series is to be reminiscent of artisanal chocolates accentuated with orange.

poured out dark and heavy with a thick frothy mocha colored head that was about an inch thick. smells of citrus, roated malts and chocolate. full bodied and thick and it was awsome on the palate. lacing around the glass. the aftertaste was very suttle and not overpowering and finished very smooth. great brew, and i am cellaring another one for a few years.

The aroma and flavor mirror each other here. Too many flavors clashing with each other....yeast esters, citrus, chocolate, toastiness, oak, clove, molasses...etc. Too much going on, but it’s a young beer. They should wait to release beers like this for at least a year. The finish is watery thin and has a slight alcoholic burn. It’s just too young to be "balanced" or "all together". Some time would obviously do it well, but the body is still very thin (probably thanks to very active Belgian yeast). The ingredients in this beer were obviously framed for the "beer nerd" but it falls short for those of us that actually like to drink beer ready on release. I could only purchase 1 bottle and refuse to wait 1-3 years to drink it. Muddled at the moment.

Dark not the usual vertical epic. Very earthy flavor very different. This seems to need to want to sit for awhile, more than the others, but tasty now too. some chocolate i suppose, this is not a belgian ale it seems. more like a porter or stout. Nice lacing. Guess i need to get a couple more and have at least one sit for a bit.

Pours dark black with a white head. Good aroma of coffee, vanilla, and some traditional Belgian aromas. Slight banana on the aftertaste. Strong heavy beer that has some burnt, woody characters with a good balance of hops. The first glass was rather heavy but started really enjoying it on the second glass. Great relaxing sipper, maybe with a nice cigar to finish it.

Lots of roasted malt comes thru in this one. Has an expresso quality that certainly packs a punch. Not as good as the 06 Epic but still nice. Good bitter finish with a thick mouthfeel

Pours very dark, almost black with a thick tan head. Aroma is strong sweet vanilla, coffee and roasted malt. Taste is sweet vanilla, chocolate and coffee with a dry bitter finish. Very good. Can’t wait to try it after it ages a few years.

Almost black pour with tan head. Complex aroma of roasted malt and spices. Subtle taste of banana and clove gives way to a wave of roasted chocolate malt and some vanilla; the finish is yeasty and nicely bitter. Very enjoyable.
