3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle, Andersons, purchased just last week for $7.99 (!). 2.5 years old. Pale orange-straw; half-fizzy-half-creamy white head dissipates into a medium ring; very light lacing. Aroma of a good abbey tripel, so I’m surprised to see this classified as a Belgian strong; floral, citrus, yeasty, a little spicy. Flavor is also typical of a Belgian dubbel or tripel, but with a slight white wine vibe, which I just subtly noticed before reading the description illustrating that several types of grapes were used in brewing this. I really enjoy that they went white grape in this instead of red grape; the red grape gives beer to much of a dark grape juice vibe that I don’t care for. Sharp yet warm sweetness, the up front flavors are unusually long-lasting which I love, and I wonder if this is a result of the aging process. Alcohol is just on the verge of fusel and astringent but stops just short so that it presents an intriguing, pleasant bite. I found myself thinking, "As good as this is, it would be amazing oaked," and, lo and behold, there is an oaked version that I’ll never get. Oh well. Medium body only because of the level of sugar in this; otherwise a little lighter; medium, clean stickiness. This deserves more love than its current overall rating of 3.51, at least in its 2-year-old form. Really nice.
Intense fruity thick rich nose. The beer starts sweetish and rich. Sourish hints, not too deep. Sessionable and a bit alcoholic. Fresh smooth, slightly sourish. The aftertaste is round and refreshing, dry honey, not too deep in body. The winey hints are there, but not too intense, the grain is in the foreground. nickd717 (4691) - San Francisco, California, USA - MAR 24, 2017
Bottle, finally rating this. Clear golden copper color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, Belgian yeast, notes of honey and muscat, floral notes. The flavor has a nice sugar/honey/muscat sweetness with a yeasty finish. Medium-full bodied, average carbonation. Pretty good for the series. kyzr (1548) - Montana, USA - DEC 14, 2016
Clear copper pour with a white head. Nice nose of fruits, red grapes, hints of spice and peaches. Flavor of fruits with spice on the finish. bubblehouse (1531) - louisville, Kentucky, USA - SEP 5, 2016
Is a really good and intense ale. By the time we had this is was 6 years old and held up. Hoprider (683) - DENMARK - MAY 1, 2016
Pours almost clear golden with very little foam N: grapey. Sweet grapes. This is like sauternes if it wasn’t for the light spicy yeast character T: the taste is wonderfully winey and sweet. Gewürstraminer or something. Only getting lightly drying in the aftertaste. Funny stuff.

Had this sometime at the end of 2012, as part of a 03.03.03 - 12.12.12 tasting. I had meant to enter these a while ago while they were fresh and add a few extra details, but that didn’t happen. Review from notes. Anyway, here we go.
3.5 A: Mildly hazed light orange color. Short head falls quickly.
4.0 S: Nice nose on this. Herbal camomille backbone. Vinous white grapiness. Super peppery. Smells like a more than solid saison.
3.5 T: Like the nose, but less depth. Still quite nice though. Lots of pepper with plenty of overall spiciness. White vinous grape, oak, and vanilla. Maybe a touch of banana.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good spritzy carbonation.
3.5 D: Not bad.

Bottle. It poured a cloudy copper color with a tan head. The aroma was fruity and malty. The taste was of biscuit, grass, grape, spice and a hint of bubblegum. Tasty. AWISLguy (3109) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 31, 2015
650ml bottle acquired from jsquire and cellared the past few years, then shared by all during the family Christmas with the 08/09/10/11/12 as a vertical tasting. Unclear reddish orange pour. Similar to mulled wine, with the sweet fruitiness. No spicy yeast presence. Smooth going down. Better than all but the 09. 13.6 tysongillmore (362) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2015
Sour. Kinda fruity. Not so good but can taste the potential. ---Rated via BeerBuddy for iPhone.
