COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over-the-top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry-hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Re-releaase as part of the 20th anniversary encore series in 2016

Im not a fancy beer person. I basically pick top rated beers and give em a try ( or beers with cool labels). Usually with top rated I am not disappointed however this is the exception. This beer was had some citrus to it maybe a liquid dawn kinda taste?? Not exactly sure and a second swig I pour it out. So sad.....

Golden pour with a decent white head. Boozy, piney, caramel aromas - I didnt get a lot of fruit. Taste was similar - there is a lot of thick, sticky resiny and pine and some booze, but not much other than that - more malt driven than hop driven I thought. I reckon 10 years ago it would have been spectacular, but I just wanted.... something else...

Bottle. Golden with one finger head. Medium body with a fair amount of booze. Big citrus and tropical notes. Plenty of resin, moderate bitterness. Solid, but the alcohol is overdone.

946ml CANamel from Hops to Home (fill date 4/12/16). Copper-amber body with a large loose off-white head that laces nicely. Plenty of pine resin and tropical fruity hops on the nose with toasty biscuity malts and a bit of booze. Taste follows the nose with a substantial resinous dry hop finish and subtle alcoholic burn. Medium-full oily palate. An excellent beer but faintly disappoints hop-wise when compared to other outstanding Stone DIPAs (perhaps a reflection of its shipping from USA).

Aroma is floral, citrus/fruit and creeping dank hops. The flavor is citrus, fruit, grapefruit, malts, hops/mild hop resin and a mix of bitter and warming alcohol in the finish.

Bottle. It poured a dark orange color with a white head. The aroma was of caramel, malts and fruity hops. The taste was similar to the aroma with more caramel, malts, fruits and hops. A little different than I expected, but still really good.

From this get go, this is a kinder, gentler Stone machine gun hand. The nose is unusually understated for a Stone Imperial - light citrus, tropical fruit and bready malt. The taste is a more subtle mix of hops and certainly less astringent than some more recent gems - tropical fruit, melon, light citrus elements - a much happier face on the potential of hops than usual. The malt is biscuit and caramel, but not as dark and roasted as the Ruination or Ruin Ten. Smooth blending and very tasty.

A 22 oz bomber, bottled on 25th August 2016, to be enjoyed by 23rd November 2016 (drank on the 27th, so Im four days late). Poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It poured a clear copper amber colour with a big three finger slightly off white colour with great retention and nice lacing. Aromas of tropical pineapple with touches of mango followed by citrusy grapefruit and mandarin, pine and a hint of caramel. Tastes of caramel biscuit malt with a blast of tropical stone fruits, bitter citrusy mandarin and its zest with notes of pine and citrus pith. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and boozy on the finish. Overall this was nice, with my only minor complaint being that Im not too fond of a boozy feel on IPAs or Double IPAs in this case. Other than that, I found it enjoyable.
