4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Interesting combination... belgian ale meets southwest cuisine. And it works. It packs a wallop, and has the same rich palate as their Double Bastard ale, but there is also a lot of complexity and subtlety. The cinnamon and anaheim peppers are used sparingly, and they mingle quite well with the belgian yeast. The aroma is weaker than I expected. Overall, Stone has really out-dogfished the competition with this innovative brew.
(Stone 11.11.11 Vertical Epic Ale) Bottle 650 ml at home, thanks to Nische! Served into a big tulip, ABV 9.4%
Deep brown colour on the body, quite hzy, murky even, with almost a finger of thick, beige head on top. Good foam retention.
The aroma has spices, cinnamon indeed, light chillie peppers, hint of caramel, belgian yeast, cookies.
Taste is mildly sweet with caramel and light toffee, cinnamon following, not much of the chillies on the taste, bready malts, cookies, cinnamon rolls, faint alcohol.
Medium thick body with good carbonation, sightly sticky on the palate.
Pretty good, it has held very well.

Pours a nice dark reddish amber color. Aromas of fruit, and some other hints, maybe some spices, maybe caramel. Flavor is a bittersweet, malty, and a hint of hops with a nice bittersweet finish.

Version 2. Ah, fresh hops. This is really good. Nice sweetness hidden under a gentle but very present hop flavor. Nice carbonation that is a light body and lively but not intense. A bit overly cloudy. jandd1983 (4574) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - FEB 4, 2016
Bottle. It poured a reddish/brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was of chiles, cinnamon, raisin and dark fruits. The taste was similar to the aroma with more chiles. malts and a spicy sweet finish. AWISLguy (3312) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 31, 2015
650ml bottle cellared 4 years and shared by all during the family Christmas vertical with the 08/09/10/11/12. Thanks for the help, bro, in acquiring these. Dark reddish pour. Cinnamon, chiles in the nose. Taste leads with that but the main player turns out to be a bit more of an amber. Sweet, wit h the other presence around the edges. Chiles mellowed out over the time? 13.4 tysongillmore (362) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2015
Mild roasted chili flavor in an amber ale. Uses Belgian yeast for slight banana after taste.
Second tasting was a bit different. More roasted chili flavor and aroma. Not as much banana as before.
