3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pours opaque brownish black with thin oily head. Roast, toffee, coffee, allspice, cinnamon. Moderately bitter and sweet. Full bodied and crisp. A tad acidic. This is classified as a Belgian, but it reminds me of certain imperial stouts, albeit with some spices.
22 oz bottle. rumproasts (6052) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - OCT 27, 2017
Poured very dark brown looking opaque and essentially black in the glass. The tan head is modest sized but has good retention.
Aroma: complex; more spicy than fruity with hints cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and clove.
Flavor: spicy but with reasonable balance for a spiced ale, and a good mix of spices.
Overall: as much an American Strong Winter Ale as Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
bottle. near black with one finger head. malty and dry. nutmeg and cinnamon, a little ginger warmth. dark chocolate. finishes bitter. there's some age evident, but it's smoothed out nicely over nearly five years. dorain (691) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUL 9, 2017
Poured an oily black with a rich brown creamy head. The head went down fairly quickly and left some light lacing. The aroma was not shy and full of various aromas. It was full of cinnamon, molasses, nutmeg and chocolate. There was a bit of a sweetness in the aroma as well. The beer had a silky smooth texture and full of great flavors. There was a hint of a slight smoke in the beer and a hint of nuttiness. There was a light sweetness to the beer, but also a hint of dark chocolate bitterness. There was also some nutmeg and molasses in the flavor as well. This beer is very complex and the longer you drank it more flavors came out and on the finish the palate was just discovering new flavors. Excellent beer!. Glad I was able to let it age 4 yrs. kermis (14716) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - DEC 20, 2016
Bottle shared with and courtesy of an on-heat platypus on an Artic Den Haag winter’s eve. Black with a beige head. Aroma of spice, cardamom, bay leaves, curry powder, caramel and cinnamon. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium to light full bodied with soft carbonation.

66cl bottle shared with Kermis and Svartwit. PhillyCraft (7981) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 11, 2016
Thin ring tan head. Clear black pour. Herbal aftertaste.
Tap, Pours a black color with coffee head and nice lacing. Aroma is heavy on Winter spices: Sage, Christmas tree, cinnamon, plum wine and caramel malt. Flavor is just as spiced with some douglas fir, rosemary, nutmeg, and sweet malts. Couldn’t finish a whole pour of this one. jinroh (2365) - ESTONIA - SEP 28, 2016
Dark brown, almost black with some beige bubbles on top. Aroma has some christmas spices, gingerbread and cinnamon. Tastes also very Christmasy - or should I say that even feels a bit like a pumpkin beer, although its not. Insane amount of spices in a strong dark ale. TimE (6163) - Tokyo, JAPAN - SEP 27, 2016
Medium dark brown color. Someone dumped the spice rack into this with tons of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla.
