Being a stout fan I am in awe of this one. The unique idea to use bitter cocoa instead of hops create a stout that is big and bold on toast with oatmeal to smooth out all the rough edges. Not too sweet nor too dry. Doesn’t rise to the level of IRS but a damn good Stone stout. MikeBeerSmith (1) - , California, USA - AUG 16, 2008 does not count
Poured from a bottle into a large brandy snifter. The head was rather thin and short lived but that doesn’t bother me all that much. The wonderful smell of coffee and chocolate bellowed thickly from the glass. The palate was silky smooth and full bodied. Exactly what I look for in a beer. It had a rather bitter flavor. It wasn’t like the harsh bitterness of overly hoppy beer, but the well-balanced sweet bitterness of dark chocolate and coffee. The chocolatey after taste really stays on the tongue long after drinking. This is one of my top 5 favorite beers.

Very dark pour with a thin head, great aroma, taste and mouth feel. It is everything you would want in a stout, add bitter chocolate what a treat. grimreaperguru (263) - santee, California, USA - APR 16, 2010
Pours a jet black motor oil with a dark brown head. The aroma is dark chocolate with a little alcohol. The flavor is a great sweet chocolate. The body is full and the finnish is smooth.Overall the best Stone brew ever. CTSVPhantom (4) - Vista, California, USA - JUL 13, 2008 does not count
Bottle. Very roasty, POWERFUL taste of bitter chocolate and dark malts. Didn’t really notice oatmeal. Pours even darker than the IRS, head is very dark brown. Very little sweetness, lots of bitterness and roastiness. Not much hoppiness. Easily my favorite Stone anniversary brew to date. T3llLAllDE (100) - USA - JUL 28, 2010
this beer is probably my favorite beer of all time. dark and rich with pure chocolate aroma. taste is chocolate alcohol bitter roasted malts and oatmeal. the most pure bitter chocolate taste of any beer. no chocolate syrup taste like many chocolate stouts tend to have. this taste like a nice bite of bitter chocolate. so good JamesD (244) - Centreville, Virginia, USA - SEP 11, 2008
This beer is amazing. The sweet smell of chocolate with the soft creaminess of oatmeal stout combined with a hint of chocolate. This beer is like an orgasm in a bottle for stout lovers. Seek this out and drink it. Now! Just quit reading, get offline, and go to the beer store.
