COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
20th Anniversary Encore Series: Stone 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA is a dry-bodied ale thats powerfully spicy with an earthy aroma. On the palate, peppery hops assert themselves early and often, with malt sweetness and a light biscuit flavor making a brief appearance before a long, complex and decisively bitter finish. There is one thing decidedly San Diego about this beer, and thats its aggressive dose of hops. 20th Anniversary Encore Series: Stone 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA is brewed to enjoy fresh but true to its origin, ages especially well on a six-month long ocean voyage.

Notes from my backlog: Pours a nice hazy glowing orange with a dense white head. Bright citrusy and biscuity aroma with an estery British yeast note. Crisp dry palate- herbaceous flavor- bright and zesty with a ton of bitterness. Quite dry with a nice bright hop zest and a gentle biscuit back. Well done.

Vom Fass in Berlin. Trb gelbes Bier, flacher Schaum. Blumiger Hopfenduft. Etwas Kreide. Blumig bitter im Antrunk. Tulpen. Ziemlich bitter.

Hazy orange, with a small white head, lacing and visible carbonation. Aroma of piney hops and mango. Sweet and fruity attack with mango, tangerine, grapefruit, pine and some caramel in taste, with a boozy and bitter finish. Smooth and full bodied. Very enjoyable ale.

Bomber. Faint aroma, almost smells a little funky. Orangish color with thin white head, and LOTS of floaties! Does not taste like a typical Stone beer, but it does have an Imperial IPA mouthfeel. Overall not bad, but not great.

Bottle from Brewcraft, drank at home. Hazy orange-beige pour with off-white sudsy head. Smells of peppery hop, wood chips, toasty cereal and corn malt, yellow pear skin, a bit of metal locker. Tastes is somewhat sharp resin bitterness, very dry, light pepper, slightly metallic edge. Body is medium, slick, very bitter and bone dry, a bit stony, quite smooth. Not generally a huge fan of English IPAs but this takes the style and makes it big - very nice.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Slightly hazy golden pour with dense white head. Aroma is earthy hops with some resin underneath. Taste is big grassy earthy bitterness with smooth honey biscuit malt. Its very much as promised - big Stone take on an English IPA. Nice heavy but not unbalanced booziness. Finish is quite sweet malt which lasts, along with some bitter booze and vegetal flavors. Palate is slightly rich. Quite good to try.

22oz bottle. Bottled 10/22/16. Hazy, light head and lace. Closed, funky nose. Reminds me of bad home brews or commercial ales from the 70s. Spice, malty & yeasty. Very little hop lift. Dirty, funky palate and bitter. Very bitter. Theres also a smoked malt note. Its malt driven rather than hops. Finishes with an ashtray flavor. Its a history lesson which is fun but its also a lesson about continuous improvement. Theres a reason why IPAs have evolved. No balance and its hard to enjoy this beer. Im not a fan.

From the 650 ml. bottle that is dated 10/22/16. Its 3 1/2 months old. My bad. This had an influence on my rating. The pour is amber-orange with a lingering white head. Slightly foggy. The aroma is more like a malt bomb, sadly; but if I really dig in I can get hints of white bread, orange, tangerine, and tobacco (probably due to its age). Medium body. Smooth. The malts have kicked in more than the hops on this beer with a tobacco, herbal, and slight fruity note. I might have liked to have tried this in October or November 2016.

Ugh. Not a fan. Aroma and taste were the same. Lemon, earthiness and spicy Noble hops. A little hot in the finish. Nice light gold color with a one finger white head. If you ever want to get a feel for the difference between European and American hops, drink this followed by and American IIPA and youll get it. Medium carbonation. I would take an IIPA with American hops any day overt this.

A 22 oz bomber, bottled on 22nd October 2016, and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It poured a slightly hazy pale golden orange colour with a one finger white head that had good retention and left nice lacing. Aromas of caramel and pine with fruity apricot jam, orange and perhaps a touch herbal. Tastes of caramel malt, biscuit sweetness, light lemon tea, followed by pine, herbal and lingering citrus bitterness. Dry-ish, medium to light bodied with moderate to light carbonation. Overall this was an interesting English DIPA with nice maltiness and hops.

Sample at brewery. Hazy golden withbthin head. No overwhelming aspects of aroma- maybe some spice, toilet, fruit cocktail. Flavor better, but not my fave. Tropical, bitter. Fine carbonation, that comes off as harsh.
