Tap @ Stone. A very cool surprise at Winter Storm this year. Nose was bursting with espresso spice. hops mellowed a bit with time. A touch of added spice in the finish.
Expected black brew with a dark brown head.. doesn’t stick around for long..
Nose is more black malt than coffee.. a little bit of bean is there, but is underwhelming.
Flavor has more coffee... decent hoppiness is there... some citrus and background pine.. but the roasty malt helps carry the beans more on the palate... could use a bit more malty sweetness to really deliver... The coffee does not really add a whole lot.

"Holy hell - where does the experimenting stop?! This was served from the cask at Stone. VERY interesting interpaly between the barrels, the hops (which were still alive and kicking), the thick dark roast in the base beer, and a fairly heavy espresso presence, which really won me over. Absolutely delicious."

On tap. Pours with a near black hued body with a tan head that lasts. Aromas are an interesting combination of espresso coffee and hops. Roasty chocolate, minerals and a bit of windex. Flavors are roasty with a sort of vegital and metallic old coffee flavor. Very bitter roast, espresso, flint pencil shavings. On tap. Pours black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is heavier on the espresso, hints of the hops remain in the back but its really turned more into a coffee beer here. Some roast and a nice soft cocoa note. Flavor has a bit more of the hops present, still tons of espresso that balance nicely with the roast of the black ipa, but it loses the actual ipa character. Medium to medium full body and a soft carbonation. Nice beer though the hops got lost a bit.

Pours black with no head. Lots of coffee on the nose. Lots of espresso flavor. The hops have taken a back seat to the espresso beans in a big way, very little hops at all for that matter, which is impressive given the way the beer normally tastes. Clear black color with tan foamage. Big ass french roast coffee bean, pine sap, dry chocolate aromas. medium body. Semi sweet chocolate, espresso, pine sap, floral flavors--lingering dry chocolate finish--very good.
