COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest anniversary beer, starring an all-German cast of malt and hops, is yet one more glorious example of a Stone IPA brewed outside the box. Our brewers have brought their experiments with German hops to fruition, leaving convention behind to create this hefty IPA entirely with pilsner malts. These provide a superbly crisp mouthfeel, while a unique mix of noble and new-school hop varieties adds layers of bright, bitter flavors. Despite the daunting name, this beer isn’t designed to bring about the end of the world, but it just might destroy some of your preconceived notions of what an IPA can be.

Hops bill: Bitter-hopped with Magnum Late kettle additions: Herkules, Merkur and Opal Whirlpool: Emerald (aka Smaragd) and Strisselspalt from the Alsace region of France, which is just a stone’s throw across the Rhine from the German border. Dry-hopped with a 50/50 blend of German Hersbrucker and Sterling

Malt bill: Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Briess GoldPils Vienna

From notes. Pour is hazed straw yellow with a white ring. Nose is bready with a fair bit of dough, notes of tangerine and citrus hops. Taste is also doughy, lots of doughy malt with a balance of citrus hops and some golden fruit. Moderate bitterness through the highly carbonated finish with a medium body.

Hazy golden tinted blonde coloured body with a nice light straw glow all with a large three centimetre tall white head. Aroma of fresh grassy and herbal hops, alcohol, very light malt and a ton of white grape juice - very strong and assertive. Medium-bodied; Strong herbal and grassy hop notes throughout with a good bitterness and a large body of the malt right behind. Aftertaste shows the depth and assertiveness of the flavours with the malt at first then immediately overtaken by the hops, the bitterness and especially by the grapey sweetness on the finish. Overall, a surprisingly good IPA with a lot of hop notes, a ton of white grape flavour and a smaller malt body that really hides this at 9,5% abv - I thought it was around 7,5% or so. I’m happy this was so good, since I usually don’t buy into names/reputations, but this one is a very good beer and should be had if you can still find it! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station on 11-November-2013 for US$7,27 sampled at home in Washington as my very first beer back in the states after a 2,5 week trip to asia - the land of mostly pale lagers - so this was a nice treat!

bottle. Golden with one finger head. The European hops used in this hop bomb provide quite a different taste that what I’m used to. While plenty hoppy, this seems less harsh, and maybe a bit more earthy than a typical Stone offering. Still delicious though.
