COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest anniversary beer, starring an all-German cast of malt and hops, is yet one more glorious example of a Stone IPA brewed outside the box. Our brewers have brought their experiments with German hops to fruition, leaving convention behind to create this hefty IPA entirely with pilsner malts. These provide a superbly crisp mouthfeel, while a unique mix of noble and new-school hop varieties adds layers of bright, bitter flavors. Despite the daunting name, this beer isn’t designed to bring about the end of the world, but it just might destroy some of your preconceived notions of what an IPA can be.

Hops bill: Bitter-hopped with Magnum Late kettle additions: Herkules, Merkur and Opal Whirlpool: Emerald (aka Smaragd) and Strisselspalt from the Alsace region of France, which is just a stone’s throw across the Rhine from the German border. Dry-hopped with a 50/50 blend of German Hersbrucker and Sterling

Malt bill: Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Briess GoldPils Vienna

A - pours a golden yellow color which a small, off white head which leaves lots of lacing on the way down S - mild citrus, hints of wheat. T - mild maltiness followed up by an absolute assault of hops. Deep piney, resiny bitterness. M - thick with ample carbonation. Very resiny D - huge beer that is a complete hop bomb. Unbalanced but delicious

One full tick up from the unbelievable regular Stone IPA. This is one we should hope they keep in long term production.

cloudy gold-light amber color; citrusy, floral hop aroma; a bitter, hoppy beer; light malt background with lots of hops and notes of alcohol; a little fruity; dry, bitter finish

Very sweet! There is a strong berry flavor to this - perhaps raspberry - yes I think it’s raspberry! Not my favorite IPA but certainly drinkable for a change of pace.

bottle - Pours hazy yellow with a lingering off-white head. It has a pleasant aroma led by citrus and floral hops. The flavor has big hops bitterness with complex hops character that spicy/herbal as well as some citrus. Medium bodied with a bitter finish, this is a strong, dangerously drinkable beer.

Pours a hazy orange colour with a thin white head. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit and orange, floral, grassy notes, and orange pekoe tea. The orange pekoe tea is a main component of the flavour profile accompinied by citrus grapefruit notes, resinous hops, the malty toffee notes are in the background but still help to balance everything out. Solid.

Nice aroma, cloudy amber color, minimal head, medium bitter, slightly sour, medium body, lively with a bitter finish

IPA 8/15/13 Pours gold with a big fluffy white head, classic Stone quality brewing. Aroms has grassy, floral, tea on nose. Flavor is big, some straw-like malt accompanying robust spicy and leafy hops with strong bitterness in tow. A bit hot and alcoholic towards finish. ABV contributes a weighty lick on an otherwise crisp body. 3.7.

Hmm, not one of my favorite IPAs. It has a good cloudy amber pour w/ a good retaining white head that leaves lacing. The aroma is surprisingly mild at best & not all that enticing. The taste is fairly subtle as well. There’s a big bitterness kick upfront but it quickly fades & almost finishes clean. The 9.5% is hidden well but this just doesn’t have the flavor complexity I was hoping for!

Malty sweetish aroma with some grapefruit hops. Taste is some grapefruit but mostly piney bitter hops. The malt balances well though making it very enjoyable. Bit of a sweet finish but well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
