COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest anniversary beer, starring an all-German cast of malt and hops, is yet one more glorious example of a Stone IPA brewed outside the box. Our brewers have brought their experiments with German hops to fruition, leaving convention behind to create this hefty IPA entirely with pilsner malts. These provide a superbly crisp mouthfeel, while a unique mix of noble and new-school hop varieties adds layers of bright, bitter flavors. Despite the daunting name, this beer isn’t designed to bring about the end of the world, but it just might destroy some of your preconceived notions of what an IPA can be.

Hops bill: Bitter-hopped with Magnum Late kettle additions: Herkules, Merkur and Opal Whirlpool: Emerald (aka Smaragd) and Strisselspalt from the Alsace region of France, which is just a stone’s throw across the Rhine from the German border. Dry-hopped with a 50/50 blend of German Hersbrucker and Sterling

Malt bill: Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Briess GoldPils Vienna

A very nice, very rough IPA. Potent in grapefruit, pine, and citrus. A bit resinous at the end.

On tap. Clear yellow with a fizzy white head. Sweet grapefruit, apple, and candied lemon peel aroma and taste with a thick creamy and chewy palate and a bitter candy finish. Very good.

A very good ipa built on a very good body. Enjoyed the spectrum of hop flavors from grapefruit to pine. Got the last 2 bombers in the shop

22 ounce bottle - great color - not super piney - fruity apricot notes - doesn't destroy the palate like some IPA's can. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very unusual beer. Appearance is more like a pilsner, bright and bubbly. Hops are subdued on the nose, alcohol very well hidden in taste. I really enjoyed it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is yeast, citrus, light tropical fruit, hop resin notes and malts. The flavor is citrus, tropical fruit/candy, mild hop resin, a hint of grapefruit and a mix of bitter, dry and slight sugar/fruit in the finish.

Pours clear golden with medium fluffy white head. Aroma is juicy citrusy hops with some sweet malty notes. Taste is floral and grassy hops upfront that fades into some sweet bready malt on the follow through. Aftertaste is lingering bitter spruce hops with some notes of sweet malt coming through. Palate is thin and somewhat sticky. Overall a nice balanced double IPA with sweet and bitter playing together nicely.

Nephilium (1818) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - AUG 28, 2013
Pine and earthy hop notes start this beer off, with a pour that shows a clear light amber with a full white head. Notes of spice, citrus, and earthiness come from the hops, with a long lingering bitterness. Light bodied, and really easy drinking. A fine addition to the Stone line of IIPA’s.

Yah Germany, this is solid, tons of hops, pure tasting, heady beer, hop prfile is pretty perfect front to back, awesome balance with a great fruity/piney flavor as well....awesome brew, how stone continues to churn out so many solid IPAs at once is beyond me, without sacrificing quality, abv barely detected.

Fresh orange citrus and bitter hops with sweet sugary notes. Bright orange body and thick slightly off white head. Fresh crisp hops and citrus with a slight dry almond and earthy spice. Dry, bitter, and carbonated on the palate.
