On tap @ Stones J Street Tap Room. Copper colored beer with some white foam. This is terrible. Jalapeo aroma followed by grass, wood, and caramel malt. Toasty and also watery. An astringent and very green, vegetal finish to this. Moderately bitter, kind of sweet, and not a great mouthfeel. This is really, really disappointing. Hard scroll past.

Orange-gold pour with a thickish pale orange head, which settles to a tight .5cm layer. Big citrus - grapefruit, orange - plus a bit of tropical fruit, good caramel backbone. Taste is a mild hit of bitterness up front, citrus, pine, caramel, and beautifully balanced, mild bitter, fruity, malty finish. This is a good one

Bottle. Deep golden with one finger head. Medium body with light caramel and slight booze. Old school with citrus hops and substantial bitterness. Good stuff, but a reminder that IPAs have come a long way in a short amount of time.

22 oz bomber, part of the encore anniversary 4-pack. Served in a tulip glass, pours hazy deep orange amber with thin lacy off-white head. Aroma is sweet syrupy lightly toasted caramel malt, hops are floral but relatively muted. Taste is thick, bright juicy caramel malt, dank citrus throughout, super clean dry biscuity finish. This is an old school, west coast DIPA, doing the style Stone does best. I know this isnt the trend du jour, but man, what a textbook classic style... imagine a Pliny or Green Flash (or Stone...) IPA circa 2000, thats what we have here. Love the encore series too, really cool that Stone can revisit classics from their catalog and update as needed.

Aroma is very floral, along with fruit and citrus hops. The flavor is citrus, fruit, mild grapefruit/tropical fruit, malts and an increasingly bitter finish. Not as blunt or dank in bitterness as the more recent Stone IPAs, this is very reminiscent of another era of IPAs; at least where I live you dont often get many this good and balanced anymore.

18/XI/16 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ Sebs Farewell Tasting (Eugenes place) - bottled: VIII/25/16 (2016-1318) Thanks to Sebletitje for sharing the bottle!

Clear orange beer, small aery head, almost non existing. Aroma: very resinous, hoppy, bit sweet, some caramel, malty touch, dank and sweet. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, pretty dank, resinous, lots of sweet caramel, malty, slightly fruity. Aftertaste: sweet touch, lovely bitterness. Nice one.

Smells of un-muddled hops with just enough malt sweetness to achieve a good balance. Grassy, clean and fresh. Very pretty bronze color with a small off white head. Decent hop bite immediately upon tasting but some sweetness makes an appearance making it very well rounded. Very good palate - dense, smooth, silky and slightly carbonated. Very good like most of Stones encore IPAs. Im glad they brought this one back and I will be looking for it again.

Not a home run for a Stone double. A well laced white had on a clear light amber body. Nose features malt, dank and fruity hops. Hops are a nice mix of grapefruit, floral and semi-astringent earthy tones, but not as juicy and fresh as some Stone products. The malt is chewy, caramel and biscuit. A touch of pepper in there somewhere. A nice mid-density body and mid to low carbonation. Meh.

Great aroma. Hoppy fresh. Bittersweet. Boozy. Tropical. No head. Pale orange. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
