COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We celebrated our first five years in business by releasing anniversary India pale ales, with each subsequent IPA brewed to be hoppier and more intense than the previous. For our 6th anniversary in 2002, we extended this concept by making an intensified version of Stone Smoked Porter. We cranked up the malts and hops a notch or three and conditioned it on French and American oak, which accentuated our porter’s distinctive smokiness and amplified its chocolate and roast coffee flavors while also adding subtle notes of toffee, cherries, dried berries and vanilla. We’re proud to give those who missed out—as well as those who didn’t—a fresh shot at experiencing this smoky, dark-as-night wonder.

Bomber. Pours a ruby reddish black with a thick, creamy, resilient beige head. Aroma is chocolate, cherry, wood, smoke, vanilla. Flavor is chocolate, toffee, smoke, ash, dark cherry, field berries. Finish is smoke, loads of wood, dark coffee. Lingering wood and smoke. Medium body, velvety and oily mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation. A true masterpiece.

The quintessential I imperial porter.so unbelievably smooth. No sign of alcohol. Yet rich.

This is Stone’s special 20th Anniversary release of their 6th Anniversary Porter - er, that’s a tad confusing. Stone doesn’t phone it in for their anniversary releases, that much is clear. This bottle had several months of age on it. Near-black color. Roasty, smoky, and earthy nose with some soy sauce. Roasted malt, smoke, dark chocolate, licorice, burnt cream, earth, herbal tobacco, and umami flavors. Feel is rich and hearty. Booze taste is cleverly hidden - you do feel a bit of heat. It’s a straightforward Imperial Porter but an excellent one.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2004 1 Aug 2004 Two years later, it's still great. Smokey, chocolatey, and some bitterness. Beautifully complex Original rating. Simply Beautiful. Explosions of coffee, chocolate & malt flavor. Smooth on the tongue, w/ a nice balance of malt & hops.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2005 ....And then Stone made a Porter to rival man’s existence!!! The aroma is astoundingly strong, and the taste is brimming with coffee flavors. The aftertaste is one of the best i can think of off the top of my head. The color is very dark brown, blackish colour that almost cries "drink me, drink me". Definitely worth 4$ out of your pocket, a beautiful porter. Re-rate 7/6/05..... Man I am seriously going to miss this beer as this was my last bottle... fairly pitch black, thick, viscous orange/tan head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, whiskey, and smoke. Flavors are full bodied, thick, roasty, smokey, alcohol and chocolate. Mild carbonation, heavy hop bitterness distinguishing this from ANY other Porter... this is the best Porter in existence in my opinion...and im sad to see it go!

Bottle. I enjoyed this on a camping trip in the redwoods. Black with a lush foamy brown head. Wonderfully robust roasted bitter chocolate flavor. A long smooth roasted aftertaste. Re-Rate 11/24/02: Black with a light brown (almost purple) creamy and laced head. The aroma has lots of smoke, wood, and at the height of the inhale the lushes sweet fruits come alive. The flavor has rich roasted malts on a creamy smooth body. It leaves a smokey aftertaste.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2003 Great interpretation of a porter! Strong sweet complex nose dominated by roasted malt, with hints of raisins and even coffee. Jet black color and a foamy tan head with lace. Huge chocolately taste with an espresso finish. Hop character is very present and makes for a long finish. Heavy body, though thinner than I expected. There is a little alcohol in the swallow that washes all the wonderful tastes down. This is like a piece of chocolate cake and a espresso rolled into a beer. Great with (or for?) dessert. Thank you SOOooo much, jcalabre!

Poured dark brown, with some reddish hues around the edges and a tan head. No real lacing to speak of. Roasted, coffee, some alcohol in the aroma. Some smoke was certainly present, followed by roasted coffee and alcohol as well in the taste. This was super, thanks whaleman!

Big, roasty coffee, chocolate aroma. Pours blacker than used motor oil. Massive campfire smoky flavor, coffee, roasted malt, some chocolate and hops. Thanks to whaleman for this, I thought I would never be able to try it!
