Bottle kindly shared by Paul at The Kernel, London. Pours black with a thick, creamy beige head. Dark malt nose with some licorice, alcohol. Medium to big sweet flavor, some burnt dark malts, light rubbery chocolate, strong roasted malts, some earthy bitterness. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with dark malts, chocolate, bittersweet cocoa, light rubber, mellow spices. Pretty OK stuff.

Koelschtrinker (21514) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - NOV 13, 2011

Draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas, vintage 2011
Pitch black color, with creamy brownish head. Strong aroma, of liquorice and anise, followed by the roasted malt, and coffee. Roasted malt flavor, not aggressive, with the necessary mild sweetness; the liquorice/anise component blends well into this. Well brewed, but not with ingredients that I look for.

Theydon_Bois (20646) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - NOV 17, 2014
Keg at Stone Liberty Station, 13/11/14. Black with a decent tan swirl and edgeing. Nose is rich roast, aniseed well evident, spice, chocolate, toffee. Taste comprises mellow dark fruits, spice, aniseed, light yeast notes, dark malts, chocolate. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close tempered with sweet and sour notes. Decent enough impy but a fair way from top draw.

At Chriso New Year 2011/12 tasting. Black beer lasting thick beige head. Aniseed on aroma. Yes too much aniseed some decent impy stout but ruined one of my favourite beers with the anise

mcberko (18999) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 12, 2011
22 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice, oak, vanilla and roasted malt. Flavour of anise, oak chips, vanilla, cocoa, and roasted malt; charred, roasty finish. Not a huge fan of the anise. And not nearly as good as the regular IRS.

Bottle at Ekstedts tasting 2011-12-02. Black beer, small beige head. Anise aroma, roasted and with some licorice. Anise flavor. Too much to be really good.
