The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, chocolate, some earthy notes, resin, some sweetness, the alcohol shows somewhat but doesn’t distract, I remember being surprised by some really low ratings at the time, decent enough. 22oz bottle. I don’t know how I never rated this. Well pulled one from the cellar tonight. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is heavy malts caramel toffee chocolate sweetness and even a little hops still trying to hold on. Taste is more of the heavy malts light roast big sweetness pit fruit and a light bitterness on the end. Wow this is still tasting good. Brown with a beige head. Aroma is double bergamot earl grey tea, malts, some oxidation. Medium bodied, starts sweet on the palate with a lightly astringent finish. Taste is dark fruits, brown sugar, sherry. Somewhat oxidized.

Bottle: Super deep brown pour, faint ruby edges, nearly black center. Light khaki head barely forms, fade quickly to a collar. Aroma of spicy rye, dirty earth notes, light cardboard, burnt toast, ashy leaves, a hint of citrus peel, & some faint caramel. Flavor is more sweet with caramel & lightly metallic toffee notes. Heavy earth, rose hip, perfume, burnt rye bread, toast, a touch of chocolate syrup, faint anise, some very mild prune. Kind of all over the place, but not bad. A little harsh at times, kind of has an "old" flavor in the aftertaste. Not bad but not great, either.
