Bad bottle or just too much? Either way I think trying to cram so many malts and hops into a single beer has resulted in a confusing mess. Thanks to someone for sending me the bottle but I think I will jump off the "more is better" bandwagon for the time being.
Aroma / Appearance - The ruby red pour gets darker as the head settles from a tan buffer to hardly anything. The nose is a muddled mess of hops and malts. Finding it hard to pick out anything in particular it is better just to move on to the flavor profile instead.
Flavor / Palate - Chocolate, caramel, and coffee grounds straddle the line between imperial IPA and a heavy stout. Florally resin aspects pop up from the crowd from time to time. If this were two or three different beers it would be enjoyable. Trying to cram it all into one is like making a bacon, peanut butter, and cajun chicken sandwich into something salvageable.
A very fruity American Strong Ale. Poured quite dark, a beautiful pour with just the right amount of head that dissolved slowly. Pine notes, grapefruit. Tons of malt and mega hops. A bit saucy, the taste has a instant strong impact yet the after taste was pretty smooth. Maybe not as full bodied as I expected from 13 hops / grains. But quite delicious, strong and not really OTT. Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Created a violent growth of thick shaving cream like head while a dense brown liquid poured into my pint glass cup. Aroma is thick and structured with a sturdy backing of rich sugary caramel or malt syrup. The flavor is rich and robust with a velvety smooth palate of sweet caramelized malts that completely dominate this drink but there is just the right amount of hop balancing. Sort of reminds me of drinking a double arrogant bastard that has been oak aged except I don’t taste any wood and I mean this not in a good way.

As the name implies, there’s a lot going on here... perhaps too much. The aroma is chock full of resinous pine tar notes. On the palate, it’s clear that there are a ton of malts, but they cannot cut through the hops in the nose. The malt backbone attempts to balance out the intense bitterness of the hops and the significant alcohol burn, but doesn’t quite make it. Bottle. Pour is dark brown, tan head, good retention/some lace. Aroma is pine, resin, roast, dark chocolate, coffee. Taste is sweet, very bitter, pine/floral/resinous hops, roast, molasses. The beer is dark chestnut colored with a tan head. The aroma offers pine, hops, caramel, booze, malt, maple. The flavor is a balance of piney hops and rich, sweet, caramels and malt, with a nod toward the malty side. Double digit abv is masked pretty well for the most part. Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation. A bit syrupy, coating the palate. Lingering flavors of caramel. Overall, this was pretty tasty. I would have it again.

Tasted on 12/17/12 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle. Pours dark cola brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to average lace, leaving some lacing along the inside of the glass. The nose is full of dark molasses and roasted coffee beans with dark chocolate, toasted cocoa nibs, a touch of vanilla, and some resinous hops. The flavor is much the same, with plenty of coffee and dark chocolate malt, with a ton of bitter resin hops, and just a touch of sweeter molasses and vanilla. The body is full and sticky with average carbonation and a long bitter coffee, resin hops, and lightly sweet molasses and vanilla finish.
