COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer is Stone Imperial Russian Stout, and it was aged for about a year in a used bourbon barrel. From that wooden cask, we were only able to keg up very little.

OMFG. Tons of uber goodness. Lots of bourbon, dark chocolate, charcoal, toffee, brandy, boozey. Very heavy. Vey much a sippin beer. Very well balanced. Love ris, but this is better. Very warming finish. A true winter warmer, which I am having in June. Wow. Superb. One of the better burbon beers, but a bit too heavy for some.

Auction winner. WOW! My favorite style from one of the greats. Beautiful black pour with a thin beige head. Aromas of big bourbon, vanilla, wood and roasted malts. Flavor of Vanilla, butter, chocolate dark fruits with a dry roast and bourbon finish. The blend was sensational. I loved it.

2009 EBF Has solid bourbon presence and that very charry, roast bitterness characteristic of Stone RIS. Sweetness from the bourbon and some chocolate malt, a bit of vanilla. Damn good.

draft at Jake Melnicks, Chicago. deep dark pour, khaki head, big roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon notes. bourbon presence seemed to melow the intense roasted flavor of the regular RIS. Very drinkable at 10.8. Good stuff

2010 on tap from both riot room and foundry for stone week. amazing beer. aroma not as strong as expected, but taste was amazing marriage of a great stout and a great barrel. vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, slight hops. beautiful beer.

Tasted 4/21/11. The Soulard iTap Stone Total Tap Takeover. Sampler draft. This was on eof my favorites of the night! Pours opaque with a very dark brown hue. Trace ring of khaki head. Aromas of smooth and creamy vanilla and dark roasted malts. Smoke and wood, with an emphasis on the woodiness. Full bodied with an apparent alcohol burn. Well blended between the base Imperial Stout and the Bourbon barrel aging. This one has a huge palate! Thick and rich with burnt malty flavors and coffee nuances. Dark chocolate and fuge. A mild, yet delicious vanilla creaminess. Somewhat earthy malts and sticky, piney hops. Just Wow!

2008 keg being pour at Oakquinox. Rating number 4900. Pours with a pitch black, completely opaque body with a small tan head that fades to a ring. Aromas are huge: vanilla, wood, cola, cocoa, bitter chocolate, brown sugar and tannins. Flavors on the other hand are a bit more mellow (as mellow as a barrel aged imperial stout can be). Flavors of tar and fudge. Ashy, wood, cola, vanilla bourbon. Still quite warming. Syrupy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Mouthcoating. Well done.

Indra (2711) - Suburbia, Kansas, USA - APR 24, 2011
2008 batch, sampled on draft at The Foundry in KC for the Stone MO kickoff. Strongly sweet, roasty, dark chocolate aroma, with much lighter notes of bourbon, vanilla and smoke. Opaque brown-black color, head is nonexistent by this point in time. Flavor is strongly sweet and malty, but the bourbon character is nicely blended and mellowed out after these few years have elapsed, some lingering oak character and strong dark chocolate overtones, finishing with fainter notes of toffee and cherry. Smooth, very low in effervescence, with a coating feel and a very full body. Rather nice, not overpowering, perhaps even a bit subtle, if that’s possible for a bourbon barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout.

At iTap Chesterfield. Thanksfully some was left after the Stone night last night. Pours very dark with a rich dense brown head. The aroma has dark chocolate, gentle roastiness, bourbon, vanilla and cream with a nice balance to everything. It has a think smooth velvety body with semi-sharp carbonation giving it a perfect balance. The flavor starts with very smooth roasty malt, vanilla, bourbon, cocoa, dates, figs, smoothed out bitterness and nice alcohol warmth. The finish has lush rich mix of milk and dark chocolate, minor hops, vanilla heavy bourbon and smooth roast. Really nice impy stout.

Had 2008 version draft at the stone kick off in St Louis. Pours black with very little to no head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla with hints of chocolate. Flavor is bourbon and vanilla. Beer is still surprisingly hot with bourbon. Overall a great beer.
