Only the third rating for this? Wow. Also should probably be a ’Smoked’ instead of just a ’Porter’. Draft in a sampler at the Stone Total Tap Takeover at iTap-Soulard. Looks just like the other Smoked Porter treatments on the pour- dark, copper-highlighted brown with a tiny beige ring for a head. The aroma is a bit too faint but has decent barrel notes- vanilla, bourbon, oak- leading the way, along with faint smoked malts, butter, and brown sugar. The flavor is also led by the bourbon barrel notes early, followed by smoke late and lingering in the aftertaste. Also some earth, char, and rust, which give it a gritty mouthfeel. 5oz draught in KC for the release of Stone beer in MO. Pours a dark brown/black. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, smoke, coffee. Flavor is vanilla, bourbon, peat, wood, smoke. This is a really good beer. Sampled at Oakquinox. Brownish black appearance with a healthy mocha head. Mild barrel aromas. A bit fuller bodied than the original SP. The oaky bourbon accents contribute in a good way to this beer.
