On draught at the West End Tavern. Golden orange color with a decent sized white head. Great aromas on this beer with floral scents, peach, dark fruits, maybe some raspberry. Flavors of the red wine barrel come through more in the taste with earthy notes, more dark fruit flavors, and some sourness. Smooth, mouth feel on the lighter side. Paul (scopey) shared this one with me and after having a sip, I handed it back to him and said "Wow, thatís not bad!" to which he quickly replied, "Well, not really."
I didnt actually mean the beer wasnít bad (obviously, being a Stone beer, itís pretty bad) but was just surprised that it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting, so I just blurted out "wow thats not bad" in my extreme shock. Yes, itís heavily over-barreled with a huge dominance of both grape and wood to the point where you arenít even sure what the base beer that youíre drinking is. BUT, the flavors, had they just been toned down, were actually enjoyable, with no grainy/harsh tannin, no harsh alcohol or overly phenolic wine character. Carbonation was ample and yet not too high, with an actual body to it and some chewy texture (obviously the woodiness helping there). So yeah, itís "Not that bad"....for Stone, who should fire all of their management and executives and start over again from scratch.
On tap at bier thirty. Pours out a burnt orange color topped with a small head. Nose is heavy oak wine grapes citrus tons of different fruit going on here some sweetness and hops. >> Hazy red orange with weak foam. Funky nose with bourbon, poundcake, grape juice, bourbon sour mixed drink. Taste is sweet, syrupy up front, juice box, black pepper... probably from red wine barrel A bit dusty, astringent. Front palate is too syrupy initially and the finish too dry/peppery. Itís drinkable, but more than a sample would be too much.

Complex, socky, caramel and fruity aroma. Nicely hopped, some mineral notes, alcohol bitterness, yeasty, peppery, woody. Woody finish tangy aftertaste. Clearish honey color. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering.
Nose is bitter grapes, woody notes, pissy, red wine BA effect, spice, lihgt herbals and minit leaf.
Taste comprises tangy red grape, trace of booze, lemon just, light tropical fruits, straw, bitter citrics.
Medium + body, fine carbonation, smei drying close.

Had on draft, but this is one of the new 500 ml releases from Stone as well. One of the rare instances where I like the barreled beer less than the original. The reason being most all of the dry blegian yeast/hoppy interplay is completely covered by the vinous, sour, fruity and acidicness of the barrels. Not a bad beer, just a completely different beer that is not as great as the original."
