COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Bam! Orange and lemon peel punch to the nostrils. Quite pungent citrus aroma, with a touch of yeast, obviously. First sip was a little surprising; this brew is a thinner body than I was expecting. Not weak and tenuous or anything, but I was expecting a thicker feel. After the citrus and yeast, the brew is grassy and floral. Make no mistake, this beer is Californian before Belgian. The only thing I wasn’t impressed with was the appearance. Decent head that recesses into a bit of lace, but the color is a real unassuming, light amber color. But you know, who cares, it’s a beer, not a mural. Delicious brew, and worth the price of the bomber. Nothing breathtaking, but tasty.

Banana, other yellow fruit, very peppery and spicy. Grapefruity hoppy in the background. Aggressively dry finish with an astringent, rough, lingering bitterness.

Can from Tesco Extra, Longton. Pours golden amber with a white froth. I think I am missing something here. Tasted like a very bitter average golden beer to me. Disappointing.

Büchse: Golden, hazy, medium-sized stable and lacy off-white head; moderate sweet-bitter lemony to flowery hoppy nose with pale malt and traces of yeast in the background; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied and pretty soft; lingering drier citric-lemony finish with a distinctive pale-malty counterpart. Well balanced stuff, even though the Belgian yeast is barely detectable...

20170518 HOME; 33 cl can; Canned 09aug2016; BB 5may2017; Brewed in Berlin, Germany. A gold yellow beer with a very slightly cloudyness and a good white foam layer. A nice and good aroma of sweet tropical fruit with some hop beitter. Also Floral and somewhate citrus-like. Taste is a little malty and medium sweet. Taste becomes fast nice fruity of light grapefrui, orange, peach and tropical fruit. A good hop bitter is coming up which is i good balance with the rest of the taste. A the end somewhat bitter dry and light sweet sticky. Body is little more dan medium.

Bottle in Calgary. A nice dark beer, hoppy of course, with Belgian yeasty sweet elements. Decent.

Pos: Slod, troche chemielu, lekka goryczka nieco zywiczna.

Goldgelb im Glas, super haltende Schaumkrone. Sehr fruchtig herber Antrunk, tropische Früchtekomposition, sehr hopfig trockener Abgang.

Originally rated on 2/4/09. A rather interesting brew, the aroma for me was the best feature. It seemed like with every sniff there was a different scent. The floral and piney hops battled the belgian bubblegum and spice, overall the aroma was very vibrant and pleasant. Flavor was similar to the aroma in that the piney hop bite was followed by the belgian yeast hints of corriander, and clove, there was enough malts to bring a little balance. Overall it was a unique beer, a combination of two of my favorite styles, and they worked well together

The Belgian character dominates with plenty of banana and medicinal aroma and flavour. Good moderate to strong bitterness reflecting the California IPA but not much of the US hops characteristics you’d expect from the Cali IPA ’half’
