COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Poured from a bottle. Crystal clear amber with an inch of white foam in a tulip glass. Foam dissolves to a film with great lacing. Smell is clearly Belgian. Nice banana/clove with some juicy hop. Taste is a little less Belgian and more IPA. Still plenty of banana/clove but also a citrus hop flavor. A little more citrus as it warms. Palate is medium with good carbonation.

330ml can. In a Cantillon tumbler. A robust American Belgian has me picturing Van Dame with the worst French/American accent since hell almost froze over. I took a swig from the can, this beer tasted yeasty and Belgian. Wow. Anyway!!. Dull golden with a decent white head. Nose of Belgian people. On the palate...bubble gum, spice, booze, fruity duvel like apple and pear yeast esters, American floral hops. I liked this more with each sip...I hated the first sip and eventually I’m finding it better than ok.

Not my favorite Stone beer, a weird combination of Belgian yeast and Stone hoppiness that doesn’t really do justice to either. Citric hops offer up a counterbalance to yeasty esters, yet the IPA-dom seems subdued and the Belgian sweetness feels strange next to the oily hops. Texture’s off too. Not bad but weird. 0.33l can. Hopy aroma, light yeasty notes, flowers, resin. Hazy golden color, white head. Hopy taste, malty notes, floral and alcohol notes, medium bitter. Medium to full body, slick texture, soft carbonation and bitter finish with light alcohol notes. Good.

Can 33 cl. Pours a clear yellow to golden with a small to medium white head and an aroma of yeast, grapefruit, pine, tropical fruits, lemon and spices. The taste is medium sweet with a nice hoppy bitter finish. Nice!

From can 0.33 L Stone Brewing Berlin best before 16 April 2017. Pours bright yellow and nearly clear (very tiny floating particles). Aroma is very yeasty, spicy, typical for Belgian yeast. Some citrus and light bread. A bit flat though. Taste begins medium bitter, spicy with some banana, increases to a medium long, quite bitter, yeasty finish. Slightly sweet taste with less fruity aromatic hops than expected. Maybe this one is too old. Next time a fresher one! Medium body with average carbonation, slightly creamy consistence. Nice mouthfeel.

The sweet smell of vanilla, a little bit fruity. The white foamy head has a normal size and duration. The body is pale yellow. A bitter and fruity taste, weak taste of yeast. The body is medium strong, very creamy and lively with a lot of carbonation.
