When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

330 ml can. Pours with a cloudy, pale golden color and a nice white head. Wow, the nose is strange: overripe bananas and citrus fruits, belgian yeast and something decayed. Taste is slighlty sweet, less bananas than expected, yeast amd some malts. The biiterness at the finish is very nice.

Pours clear light golden with aggressive white head which lasts. Aromas of saaz hops, Belgian spice and a hint of malt. Good carbonation and mouth feel. Taste starts of Belgian with not to much banana but a hint. Then finished like an IPA with some hop bitterness and balance of light malt. Personal note : a bit too Belgian for my liking

Near white thin head on a lemon coloured body. Sweet citrus fruity aroma. Medium bodied, airy on the palate, sharp on the back. Lots of bitter yet malty flavours. Grapefruit, yeasty, citrus & slightly acidic on the back.

330ml can, filtered, from Tesco. There is a bubblegum quality to this which is attractive - that would come from fast acting yeast, either due to the strain or the heat. Stone says its the yeast they use. There’s a pleasant sweetness. Hops are present all over the place, but not aggressive. The strength is not apparent except in the impact. The thin malt is like a lager, and th carbonation is like a lager.. There is much to like about this, but nothing to get me excited. It’s like a European lager with zesty modern hops and a sweet bubblegum flavour. Odd, but quite drinkable.
